I don't think Joe's hand speed is so much underrated as it is overlooked. He showed excellent hand speed in his challenge of Ali, and Don Dunphy made note of it from ringside. Muhammad had superior extension on his punches though, and that was a difference in their exchanges.

I don't know if he's been mentioned yet or not, but Jerry Quarry ca. 1967-'71 very good hand speed.

Dude, I'm not living ina dream world. I'm not the one that thinks Rocky (I'M FROM MASSACHUSETTS BY THE WAY) Is the greatest heavyweight champion.
Are we talking about hand speed or just movement? Because hand speed they blow rocky out of the water. Rocky didn't even really throw combinations.

1:13 is without a doubt faster then anything rocky ever threw.
Just show me a combination that's even as fast as that.

Yeah Bowe isn't faster then Rocky.. Please. Rocky was ****ing slow for his size.

Lewis throws a nice fast combo at 0:46

George throws really fast in this fight. way faster then rocky no doubt about it.

And here's Vitali.. He threw fast right hands in this fight

Rocky is extremely slow. I know youre a fanboy of rocky and you think he's unbeatable but the dude was not fast.

for me i think sharmba mitchell had extremely fast hands, i believe his hands where just as fast as mayweathers in his prime.

with hype, joey gamache had great handspeed like a young johnny tapia

this is a huge statement but i think tony tubbs may have had the fastest hands i saw in a heavy weight (including ali, sanders and tyson)

:lol:Ha ha could only be bothered to watch the Vlad Austin one and the Bowe one but awful - just woeful (!!!) examples to use Vlad loooked like he was in slow motion - Austin actually looked quicker with his hands?? Until the left hook??

And the Bowe clip - that trial horse he was fighting was miles faster with his hands than Bowe??? Bowe actually looked a bit peeved that that guy could come at him and clip him with some digs - probably helped that he was naturally quite a bit smaller than Bowe so hence just naturally quicker

    Diego Corrales.

Slow feet, but he threw very quick combinations with those effective short punches.

You just reminded me...Tommy Morrison had some nice hand speed. He'd throw those quick crisp combinations. People on the GF thought I was insane for saying he had better hand speed than David Haye (whose hand speed might be the most overrated attribute of any fighter). Haye's hand speed is limited to single shots and is overrated as ****.

Good call. Morrison actually WAS quick, and his punches were thrown with great technique.

You know who could be sneaky quick and I never hear about being so? Bert Cooper. He uncoiled that right hand so fast t could be hard to pick up.

Ismael Laguna is still often forgotten when handspeed gets talked about.

Eddie Hopson was crap, but lived up to his nickname.

i agree!, david reid had the best jab jab right hand that i have ever seen. even among the greats!

thread stealer is absolutely right, tommy morrison hard very good handspeed. the way that he would cut the distance, then throw quick straight punches to quick uppercuts then the left hook (from what i remember) was fantastic.
