Not a problem. I reckoned that you'd find some of it useful; given that you are clearly doing research on Lytell and will most likely write articles on the many prodigious lefties in the game today... There's more where that came from if you're interested.

U, my two absolute favorite heavyweights. It should be mandatory to watch Dempsey in the second round of the Firpo fight when Dempsey frees his left hand from a clinch and shoots 7-10 short left hook uppercuts so ferociously into Firpo jaw.A revelation to see !
And to see Joe Louis in the Max Baer fight throwing 3 powerful left-hooks in RAPID succession pantherlike. I'm still awed by the power and speed by
Louis in the Baer fight in 1935...Dempsey and Louis were not burdened by
extra weight, and were STRONG enough to handle the weight of the230 pounders by getting there "fustess with the mostess ", to quote a Civil War General. Bedford Forrest...:good

This thread has peaked my interest in Bert Lytell, is there any film of him anywhere?

Also, some posters here have described Lytell as being "boaderline great" which means he is not to be mentioned in the same breath as Burley, CK and Holman Williams? Is this true, did he just miss the cut or is this untrue i.e. does he actually belong up there with the great-of-all-time boxers?

Dempsey comes to mind first as the standard as animal ... truly savage ..
Sullivan, Frazier, Holyfield, Holmes, Saad Muhammad, Ketchel, Walker, Duran, Gatti, Paq, Erik Morales, Mancini, Pryor, Arguello come to mind ... Guys that you have to kill to stop, who even out on their feet will still throw punches till they die ... this is my definition of animals .. Marciano was just a bit too smart, he would never quit but he had awareness of self preservation ...

Cold blooded killers were Monzon, Louis, Liston, Foreman, Foster, Hopkins, Hearns, Vitali , Benn, Jackson ... just mean Mofo's who took a delight in administering nasty beatings ...

he, might I add YOUNG Rocky Graziano, who defined the words" ferocious animals". He had a nice refined trick of holding an opponent under the jaw with his left glove, and bludgeoning his opponents stationary jaw with his
right hand. His motto was "chickie the cops"...

Dempsey and Duran come to mind as well as Louis and Marciano, Lamotta and Carmine Basilio and SRR but one who is never really mentioned because of his demeanor is Sugar Ray Leonard but take a peak at the Tommy Hearns 1 fight, the Andy"the Hawk" Price fight or the Dave"Boy"Green fight and you will see a vicious killer

Gatti and Ward were both animals when hurt. You were almost better off not hurting them because of how dangerous they became once they got hurt.

Nigel Benn. Whenever he got tagged it seemed to spur him on. He was definitely at his most dangerous when he was backed up and hurt. Just like an animal. I always felt Benn was one of the few boxers that when he got hit and waved his arms to the other guy to hit him again he really did like it/want it.

When I saw the title to this thread I had mentally put together a list of 8. The only two from my 8 which have not been mentioned so far are Bummy Davis and Victor Galindez.
