    Calzaghe was the master at slapping. He says it's was because as his career progressed, his hands became too fragile.

    There a technical difference between the twain but I assumed that readers would understand them as equivalent in the context of a boxing subject. Another reason I used a different word is because as a writer I am in the habit of varying word usage in order to avoid monotony.

    I know the difference already. That's why I asked why you are using speed and velocity interchangeably when the two words are not interchangeable.
