Liston certainly would have finished Holmes if he floored him the way Shaves did, Earnie looked drunk when he tried to finish a groggy Larry.

Tyson would have landed more shots than Spinks, he was a far smarter offensive fighter than the nervous Spinks.

Good to see there are still poster @BF24 with common sense.

To rate Sonny Liston, "the ATG", among other ATGs you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Why? Because he didn´t beat a) many champions b) good H2H HWs (especially in therms of modern standard. Cleveland Williams stands out as a bigger guy that could fight. Because of resume? He had like 2 winning title fights. How much of his legend is for beating a glass chinned fighter 30 pounds lighter than him?

If I remember correctly, he had the biggest avarage weight advantage of all champs against his 50s Rocky-like environment. He was dominant in his last fights before Ali, but among his whole career there is no monster-like punchers pattern to gather in his resume.

    This has been evaluated here:
    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/rate-mike-tyson-with-another-resume.603860/

The knockout artist pattern in therms of Foreman or Tyson is simply not there.

    Another good thread about Sonny:

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/teach-me-about-sonny-liston.603777/

For example, for what reason rate him over Bowe oder Vitali?

Someone might give him the benefit of the doubt for no having better opposition at his peak time. But you could give that to Tyson, Vitali, Wlad, young Ali etc. too.

Doesn't mean it's a better jab just because its longer. I never realized Liston was a master of fainting guys out of position.

Am I the only one that thinks Joe Louis in his prime would beat Sonny Listen?

I wouldn’t put him over guys like Louis, Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Klitschko, and, for right now, Fury.

I think he's the second best HW H2H with only Ali and Louis getting the better of him

How does Dempsey beat him? And does Tyson?
Personally to me anyone who walks forwards to Liston (or Foreman for that matter) gets KOed. I think that Dempsey comes forward and is caught on the attack by something he doesn't take well and gets beaten into submission every time he gets up

They have equivalent chins. Dempsey is faster, more vicious and has the better defense

    Liston hits harder

It's a toss up if they really duke it out but I'd give the edge to Dempsey.
