Then why on earth was Tito ranked at like #15 or so at Lightheavy after his fight with RJJ? It just doesn't make sense...
Depends on who holds the title in any given weight class. The Champ makes the belt, the belt doesn't make the champ.
I don't quite understand your post, are you saying Felix Trinidad was placed in the wrong division, or too high or too low. Trindad had fought five times at middleweight up to 2005 then retired until Jan 2008 when he fought Roy Jones at 170 pounds. I chose to rank Felix at 168, that was a choice, I think I ranked him correctly. Trinidad had points from his middleweight days and they are reduced over time and by divisional change. He is no longer rated because he is once again inactive. Hope that explains.
I bet anyone on here would love to win one of those belts, maybe meaningless to armchair fans but some fighters will never get to the level to win an alpahbet title can win these and it might mean the world to them so screw it. Call them meaningless when you have the ability to win one!
Taylex- Yes I am largely pleased. The IBO has no enemies really, the main 4 had much more kudos than us obviously but the champions largely make the decsions today and thats why mandated fights wont work like they used to, the sport needs champions to fight other champions. I think the other sanctioning bodies will more fall backwards in terms of respect, the big fights will be the unifications and the one thing the IBO wont do is try and stop big fights. I dont think mergers are really likely theses sanctioning bodies proliferated because of arguements, the money within sanctioning bodies pays the judges, referees, supervisors, regional organisation, conventions. There is not massive amounts of surplus cash for a shareholder. The problem people perceive is that they see one fight generating a crazy amount to a sanctioning body but they forget that the smaller titles and lighter weights almost cost money.
agreed. i'd be damned happy if i were in the position of a boxer that won what most keyboard warriors regard as a 'paper' belt... at least it's something you could be proud of as a boxer.. you can tell your sons and daughters once you get old that "hell, i won a title belt against a patsy but at least i have achieved something as a prozefighter"
Spot on mate. Not every boxer has the abillity to make waves at the highest level, and some fights against lesser known fighters may be tough battles for them which means a lot, so fair play. The principle of all the Alphabet titles is wrong, but I guess sometimes its gives lesser skilled fighters something to actually fight for.
