Southpaw vs Orthadox fighters usually put people to sleep too. If you're going to pair the two, make sure at least one is dynamic and aggressive.

You need to think of things through context. Rigo had the ability to reduce Donaire into a slugger.

Donaire would play the roll of the slugger against Mares as well. He would walk Mares into serious punches.

Maybe slugger is the wrong word. Puncher might be better a description.

But just because you're a puncher, doesn't mean you don't have skill. It just depends on your opponent.

You don't always know how it's going to work out. For instance, most people thought Canelo would try to outwork Trout, but instead, he boxed him on the outside and it was Trout that was a volume puncher.

They flipped the script.

 

A good example of what I just said was Broner vs Rees. Rees came in with the gameplan that Broner would be on his bike and try to stay away, while Rees volume punched his way to victory.

Broner was the wrong matchup for him stylistically. He stood his ground and slugged it out with Rees.

That's a great example of a volume puncher vs a slugger or a puncher or whatever you choose to refer to Broner as. It's a guy that stands his ground and beats you down. He's not looking to throw a lot of punches. He's looking to hit you a few times, knock you out, and go home.

In the Malinaggi fight, you would think that Malinaggi would have an advantage since he's a boxer; however, he's not a very good boxer and he's undersized.

Broner isn't going to look to throw a lot of punches. He's going to look to walk Malinaggi down and slug him out of there. Unless Malinaggi gets caught right away, he could turn the fight into a snoozer, but Broner is just too big, too strong, and too good.

This time the boxer always beats a slugger formula didn't work out. You have to factor that in too.

 

Depends what you mean by matcmaker, someone who can guide a fighters career and manage risk v reward or someone who can make awesome fights.?

I think most of us can make awesome fights, they are obvious

A great fight would be Rios vs Broner. While Rios throws a lot of punches, he has power; however, Broner has better defense and more power.

It would be interesting to see if Broner stands his ground or elects to box Rios from the outside. Rios has issues cutting off the ring, but Broner isn't a fleet footed boxer.

It could be a very exciting fight.
