Jones would try to take Silva down repeatedly...and given the fact that he's bigger and has longer reach there's a lot less intrigue about whether he'll succeed than St. Pierre
Im not saying Jones will struggle to get the TD, we all know that Silva`s biggest weakness is wrestling but its will he be able to hurt & damage Silva like he does everyone else (Silva has never been hurt or damaged in is UFC career thus far), will they exchange blows for long periods on the feet ?... & who gets the better of it if they do ?.... who will even be the favourite in the fight ?
Again...he'll just try to take Silva down. Unless Silva can expose some technical flaw in Jones' game I just don't see Jones vs. Silva as a competitive fight. Jones is the bigger, longer, stronger fighter and he's the better wrestler. All the physical advantages that Silva's game relies on disappears. Silva's a great fighter and maybe he could find a way to win through better ringmanship but its a longshot. Silva vs GSP is a far more even fight. Silva is bigger than GSP and yes the size gap is bigger than that which exists between Silva and Jones. But GSP's wrestling is an equaliser. Its not a coincidence that fighters with stronger wrestling bases such as Henderson and Couture enjoyed success at higher weights - their wrestling allowed them to negate the size difference by getting their opponent to the flaw. And if you believe Roach, GSP isthe stronger of the two. And even if GSP just kept repeatedly taking down Silva...he'd still have to deal with Silva's ground striking off his back and jiu-jitsu. I think a 25minute ground war between the two would be fascinating. Far more so than against a Diaz that has proven himself easy to shut down by great wrestlers. And the key thing is getting Silva vs GSP doesn't stop Jones vs Silva - Silva could always move up.
From day dot I always said stylistically GSP can beat Silva, my only issue is size. I like GSP so I would most likely support him. However if he was 6'2 he would beat Silva. Watching him unable to finish guys at 170 and seeing him sit next to Silva and the other champs makes you have a rethink.
You have to remember that the images of Silva and St. Pierre from the weekend are an extreme example as St. Pierre had made his weight cut so would be below his normal fighting weight and Silva is not currently in a camp so is above his normal fighting weight.
Silva vs GSP isn't even competitive. Silva would wipe the floor with him. Silva vs Bones though is much more even fight. This is the fight id pay to see.
