Have i said anything 2 the contrary about pea:think NO:smoke

Duran gets him IMO or gets the UD on work rate:yep Everyone just seems 2 think that this will be a walk in the park 4 Pea:nono Ov course it'll be close, but it will be an accumulation over a period of time as as we both know thats how Duran got rid ov most opponants:yep

I love this fight, so much. The contrasting styles, etc. While they were totally different stylewise, they were both rather complete. IMO, Whitaker's offense gets overlooked like Duran's defense does by many people.

Certainly the best dream match in the history of the sport. Without question, the most interesting.

If that's the case, name just one person who has suggested such?

Whitaker is on a different stratosphere to all of Duran's opponents at lightweight. De Jesus and Buchanan were perhaps the best he faced at the weight. Whitaker is like 'chalk and cheese' compared to those guys when it comes to being a jigsaw puzzle.

True, I overstated a bit there just to make a point. But if Pea's combined toughness and smarts could still get him through against Trinidad when he was so far removed from his best physically and maybe even mentally, the peak version doesn't get stopped by Duran, who was, as you stated, an accumulation puncher.

I guess I've ballsed up the non-analysis stipulation of this thread

I don't participate in Robbi's polls but mine would be the correct answer.

Not doubting Viruet's credentials, both brothers were top class boxers:yep

I used Viruet as a generalisation as 2 survive 15 with Duran & Duran never looking like losing & Viruet never looked like winning.

I remember the cover ov Boxing News with regard 2 the Chavez/Whitaker fight & it said this on the front page: DON'T BUY THIS ISSUE IF YOU THOUGHT CHAVEZ WON" I lost a pile on this fight as i'd got 4/1 on Pea:verysad

That's very true, but I tend to think that the reverse is also true in terms of opponents, and Buchanan and DeJesus were better lightweights than anyone Whitaker beat at the weight. Not that that's relevant to who would win the eponymous matchup.

I said Duran originally, but with no real conviction.

Duran wins by points, but Whitakers gives him a good run for his money

I carry it around with me everywhere I go.

Na, I actually upped it to image shack, together with all these other covers from boxing mags covering the Chavez-Whitaker fight.
