In my day I was the most beloved fighter by my people in Mexico, surpassed only by Julio Cesar Chavez over 20 years later. I finally became World Bantamweight champion toward the end of my career.

I know this is a trick question cause In all reality Olivares was the most popular fighter ever from Mexico before Chavez, but i know he won the bantam title towards the beginning'

So then you have to be talking about Chucho Castillo.:yep

Negative. I fought in the 50's and early 60's. Olivares was the most popular champion amongst mainstream boxing fans, but with my people my love was unsurpassed.

I would have said Macias first but, you said Chavez came 20 years later so that stumped me since Macias came around a little longer than 20 years before Chavez did.
