155 is amazingly stacked right now. There's heaps of legit title challengers and any one of them could wreck Frankie's night.
Frankie seems to a lot better in the rematches, I had him losing both first fights against Penn and Maynard. Melendez / Hendo are the future of the division
I'm picking Gilbert when they fight. If Gil gets Edgar in the same trouble Maynard had him in the first round of both their last 2 fights I can't see him letting up.
Frankie is almost always going to be the little guy. That is what makes him so exiting. Almost every contender stands a chance with him. It may appear that Edgar has Maynard's number now, but can you really write him off if they meet again? What about Pettis? How long to think Edgar wants to take a chance standing up with this guy? Then there's Henderson, Guida, Melendez...
Its hard to see who beats Frankie , Maynard seemed to have part of Franky's number covered , but thats now been put to bed , and Maynard is one of the most difficuilt fighters in the sport to apply a gameplan against , his stand up is technically solid , he has a good strong chin , good engine , elite wrestler , he's a very well rounded tough fighter , and he couldnt get rid of Edgar Side note , i feel sorry for Maynard i felt he was robbed in there 2nd fight When you look at the field , you have to give the edge to Edgar against pretty much all of them , the main weapon in Edgar's arsenal is his wrestling , its a major " go too " for Frankie , weve kind of lost the image of Frankie's well timed shots and relentless top game because he couldnt apply it to Maynard , against anyone else there gettin picked up and dumped on there ass :deal if the going gets tough ............ Edgar Melendez is a great fight , Melendez is probably the best strategist in MMA IMHO , and has excellent well rounded skills , i cant wait for that one Its a question of who has the package to compete / defeat Edgar , you have to over come his movement , speed , output & wrestling to beat him , im not sure anyone @55 has the tools to beat him :think
Good post Winfella, lets no dismiss Gray as anything less than the 2nd best LW in the world. He is a nightmare matchup for anyone hence he was undefeated coming in. Good stand up with KO power and a beast of a wrestler. That combination pretty much is the top skillset in MMA by far.
155 is awesome. Edgar would have to fight four times a year for two years to beat every good 155er. To answer the question, I think Pettis has the skills to give Edgar a lot of trouble.
Obviously he has great power, yes heavy hands. Problem is hes also an elite wrestler who still uses his dominant skillset in most of his fights. So just because hes KO ratio is not there doesnt mean he cant KO people. BJ whose known to have heavy hands couldnt hurt Edgar when he tagged him and yes he did a few times yet everytime Edgar gets hit by Grays right hand he looks like Frazier against Big George.
