I just finished watching the fight again and Hopkins game plan seemed to be throw a right hand on the way in go for a headbutt and clinch. He's not known for entertaining fights but he threw very few punches per round and clinched every time he could. People **** on Ruiz all the time, myself inclued but I thought Hopkins took a page out of ruiz's play book
not by that far, is there any numbers available on how many clinches he had in that fight? And the low blow was a total act.
yes career wise not too many can compete, but during the fight John Ruiz came to mind for some reason
Please don't compare Hopkins to Ruiz. Ruiz is nothing but a limited fighter who lunges forward and holds because he can't do anything else. Hopkins is a ring master who had to hold a bit more than he usually does against a P4P fighter because age had finally caught up to him and he needed every trick in the book to make it competitive.
I respect Hopkins for fighting at a high level at his advanced age but he faked the low blows complaining about punching behind the head....which barely happened and usually throwing one right hand and then coming in with his head down and clinching. his punch output was super low and then he says he won the fight. every fight I see him in is an ugly fight, he has had a great career but I don't care to see him in th ering again.
Who's older, Ruiz or Hopkin's? Or uses it tactically, Ruiz or Hopkin's? Who's actually a world class fighter, Ruiz or Hopkin's? Who's a ****** in this thread, Ajax or Ajax?
If you really think that, then you need to watch more Ruiz and more Hopkins fights. But bring a lot of no-doze. Ruiz - Golota, Ruiz - Johnson, Ruiz - Oquendo, Ruiz - Rahman... ALL way more clinching then Hopkins has evr done. And also, Hops wasn't much of a clincher till recent. This reminds me of how everyone was comparing Hatton to Ruiz after the Tszyu fight. Guys clinching recently does not compare to ones who did it for a career.
Who uses it tactically? Ruiz has beat alot of good fighters with his minimal talent level so I would say him
your right about the no-doze , Hopkins-Taylor 1 and 2, Hopkins-Winky were real barn burners and of course most John Ruiz fights can put a wild animal to sleep.
