Honestly the only decisions that you can claim were "gift decisions" for Ali are:

    Norton III
    Jimmy Young

When Ali's peers including Norton, who you can claim beat Ali in 2 out of 3 fights, agree that he was the best then its pretty much settled. Ali was past his best after the 3rd Norton fight but the challenger has to decisively beat the champion and Norton lost the 15th round, so the champ got the decision. And Jimmy Young was stupidly sticking his head out of the ropes but this is a fight I do believe should've went to Young.

Most of Ali's big fights came after his 4 year absence from the sport ... and he resumed his career fighting the best, most competitive crop of heavyweights out of any era.

Doug Jones did give him some trouble but Ali did enough to win ... plus Ali was still young at this point

Cooper had him down but Ali quickly got up and dominated the rest of the fight ... he won the fight via TKO and also the rematch via TKO

He beat Liston the first time even when Liston tried to blind him ... Liston had trouble finding Ali the entire fight ... the rematch is definitely controversial and questionable but its not like Ali told Liston to take a dive

So yeah Ali is overrated but so are a lot of past boxers

    No problem. :good

I tend to take this forum as serious as it merits at times and as you can see from some of the replies that are dead serious, it isn't deserving of a whole lot of respect. :verysad
