Where Jim Watt slipped up scoring HAye-Valuev is that he shouldn't have scored it how he thought the judges in Germany were going to score it, he should have scored it how HE saw it but made comment about the possibility of a home town decision. I had Haye winning but I thought there was a good chance, given the circumstances and the type of style Haye employed, that Valuev would get the decision.
I hate ITV's commentators they have got to be the worst commentators that boxing has ever produced, really bad.
Abso****inglutely! It legitimises hometown scoring otherwise. Watt was much better when teemed up with Reg Gutteridge I seem to remember.
Jim Lampley is the best, he really knows how to capture the feel of a big fight and bring it across to the viewer. Larry Merchant makes some good observations, but talks way too slowly - still better than Kellerman though. One feature I like about the US coverage is the scoring - scores the round, explains why he gave it in the first ten seconds or so of that round..... rather than popping up randomly later in the fight or at the end. In the UK, I'm a fan of Ian Darke, he's a bit Lampley-esque, though not as good..... McGuigan is either great or ****, Jim Watt is painful, Nelson needs valium, McCrory has slipped a long way...... don't even get me started on Adam Smith. In fact, just ban me before I say something stupid! They need proper studio coverage ala Setanta or to ringside as ITV do - preferably with Rosenthal or Dempsey - Clark just isn't (or doesn't appear to be) all that interested/knowledgable.
in cricket its not too bad...although i thought they were not so bad compared to the non-aus guys like mark nichols and tony greg...real arse kissers....chappel is the best for speaking his mind.
Thing that annoys me on the ESPN commentary is that Teddy Atlas will continue talking about some anecdote or making a point even though something of note has happened in the ring, he just carries on till he's finished
Im surprised Barry McGuigan hasnt got a mention yet... fair enough i know he does more analysis than commentary, but still should be included. The man who starts off every sentance with "well, you see, the thing is..."
