He really is a very observant, honest and intelligent guy. I didn't know about Young Ali before reading the book - a tragedy which obviously had a huge impact on Barry.

Yes that would have an effect on anyone, but if you put the gloves on and step in a ring you take that chance. Like soldiers you have signed up for combat so be prepared to face the consequence.

I also think the challenges he had because of where he was from takes a strong person to get through that and be the man he is today. Plus the family presures he must of had with his sisters disability and also his own children says a lot. "TRUE HERO"

i've always thought that a boxers correct tech very much depends on his own build and strengths and that this often gets mixed up with what people would call a textbook boxer.
i think in britain our coaches are not picking up the differences between fault and flair!
look at khan since he moved camps and this is why degale needs a new coach!!!!

    Ben Murphy.

  8. Haye.

Running around the ring like Bambi and throwing wild right hooks via recorded delivery is compulsive viewing.

Napa was probably the best in Britain. Currently probably Rhys Murphy.

Depends on your definition of technically good though. I dont translate conventional to technically good/correct. Cause the very best fighters generally aint straight up down robots who fight too tall, they are relaxed fighters who have good fluidity & coordination. Napa & Murphy aint the best fighters around Britain, but they have the kind if style that excels at top level if your on that level.

People used to say Kessler was technically good. I just felt he was more conventional rather than technically good. He has a lot of amateur traits like moving foward in straight lines with no head-movement, and he even moves backward in straight lines using the battered wife defense when attacked. He can only fight from long range to.

Quigg is probably the best in an orthodox way. Moves his head, very sound traditional guard, textbook punch technique. Very solid.

But I think Gavin has the edge as far as being able to move at the waist and better head movement, more advanced.

Burns is not a bad shout but some marks have to be taken off for lack of head movement and stiffness.

Ricky Burns or Mad Matt Hatton.

You might laugh but watch Mad Matt Hattons fights, superb work behind that jab, rarely moves backwards in straight lines and keeps a high guard, short, solid shots, rarely swings big hayemakers ala notsocleverly and actually turns the knuckles unlike Barking Darren Barker.

agree with most in this thread. Also, not sure if he is still boxing but Andy Morris was a good technician IMO
