In each weight division ..AND born Australian's not guys who stayed after olympics etc. I'd say some of our current boxers are some of our ATG.. Cruiserweight - Green Middle - Geale Supermiddle - Mundine
Darcy and Sands were better middleweights than Geale. Rose at bantamweight, Jack Carroll at welterweight. Im sure Ill think of more later. I gotta say the old timers take the cake for most of the weight classes.
Maybe your right..so ill ask you... Green - 3 time world champ - do we have any other cruiserweight with that feat? Mundine - 3 time world champ -any other supermiddle with that feat? Geale - 2 time world champ - any other middle sone what he has? AND YES weather you like it or not..they are world champs...I dont care which fighter from 1927 fought for the commonwealth titile 10 times and won the aussie title 9 times...a world champion is a world champion
But its far easier to be a World Champion these days than say when Mundine snr was fighting when I think there was only the WBC and WBA titles. Some older posters may know but I've been told Mundine snr was way better than jnr but a guy called Monzon was a beast. No IBO,IBF,WBO,silver,regular,frankincense and myrrh belts back then.
I 100% agree...obviously now days the boxing market has spread in terms of francises/organisations,where as back then there was only the wba and wbc and also nba(which i think was the 1st organisation) and a aussie title and commonwealth title had meaning.BUT things have changed,so its a shame some great aussie boxers from yester year are not down in history as world champs,when you have boxer with not even half the ability and skill going down as a world champ.But in the end of the day,if you have won a world title of any sort,its better then not having one at all?
If you had to make a prediction, which of the three above would you say will make the world boxing hall of fame. Do you see any opponents of the above three making the world boxing hall of fame in the future. I would say RJJ is a certainty.
