I remember a while back reading his biography for details about the wrestling, and I think (?) he said he wasn't very good at it. I don't know that he got very far at the high school level.

That said, even mediocre high school wrestling experience probably trumps none, which is what most of the field has.

I think Ali had some sort of grappling prep before the Inoki "fight," so later 70s Ali might have a sliver of grappling ability as well.

In my experience and that's not recent, lol wrestling seldom plays any part in a street fight. Its," get the first one in," and keep" getting them in".These knockdown drag out brawls you see on the screen like in ,"The Quiet Man," for instance ,rarely happen in real street fights ,which tend to be over in a matter of minutes.

For the smaller men Roberto Duran, I read were when he was living on the streets he was getting in fights with sailors when he was 13 years old.

I remember some tussles that I got into and to be honest grappling and striking was about 50-50. One particular incident that I got into was a father/ son duo. Pops got put away by some punches to the cakehole. Junior however was greased lightning and I couldn't land a finger on him. It felt like I was in the Matrix and he was frickin Neo. Until I grabbed him around the neck and got him in a headlock. Luckily though he was as fast as the Flash, he had about as much power as one of the Care Bears. No harm done. That was actually the end of the fight; I let him go and gave him a stern warning. If I hadn't grappled him I'd be still chasing him today.

I see it as just the opposite. Tyson is angry enough & stupid enough to get involved. Lewis is just far too cautious & level-headed by the time he came into his own as a pro.

I’d pick Sullivan or Dempsey, personally.

I wouldn’t even say minutes. Seconds would be more accurate. But I found wrestling was the ticket.

A drunk Ned O'Baldwin could also be a force out here, if if he was really as good as Mike Donovan said he was. 6'5-6'7 puncher, armed robber who threatened to ****ing bludgeon a stakeholder

I was talking about bottle, facing adversity when you are getting beaten. Getting up when you know you're gonna have to take more. I've met many, many people who were stupid and angry enough to get into fights, but not many willing to finish them....

True enough about Tyson. I am not terribly sold on Lewis’ heart either, though.

Holmes had a ton of street fights during a certain stage of his life.

The fights as long back as Mason and Bruno showed heart, Briggs, Mercer and Vitali definitely did and the fact he rematched the two men who sparked him does for me. I'll give him a pass for the cojones test!!

I will give you my advice, for whatever it it worth.

The first rule of self defense, is always treat a stranger with respect.

The second rule, is if don't want anything to do with somebody, then don't comment on them or look at them in an obvious way.

The third rule, is apologize even if you didn't do anything wrong.

The fourth rule is, damn that didn't work out, and a fight is inevitable.

There are two key points of weakness in the human body in my eyes, and those are the wrist and the neck.

If everything is going a over t, and you are getting your ass kicked, then just go for the neck, because that is your last chance.

You must never have played sport and copped something hard to the stones Jan. The eyes would also sit above the hand and wrist in more ways than one.
