Davey Day, fought Armstrong for the Welterweight Title 3/31/39 half blind, half the fight and was ahead of Armstrong in the 10th round, Hank was leading in the earlier rounds on aggression, hitting Day south of the boarder regularly every round , it wasn't Armstrong's mitts that closed Days eye, it was his elbows. In the eight round Day opened a deep gash of Hanks eye. The fight could have been stopped making Day the Champ. In the 11th Hank hit Day 5 times below , losing that round on a foul. The referee could have taken 5 rounds from Hank, but only took 2. It was noted that it took a lot out of Davey. The referee stopped the fight at 2:49 of the 12th as Day was getting up from a punch that he couldn't see coming to the .kidney. The referee looked at Armstrong's bloody face and said, you can rest now, its over. The referee said, he never say a fighter throw as many punches (estimated at 2000) and where did he get all that energy from.Hank had to be helped out of the ring. Besides the cut eye, he broke his right hand and his face was all blotched up, souvenirs from Day, who went home to Chicago with a red eye. Armstrong was suppose to fight Day in a rematch if he beat Petro Montanez #1. welterweight contender. Davey stop Pedro in the 8 th because of another deep gash to his eye to. Hank duck Davey and fought Montanez, wanting no part of Mr. Day. Lou Amber's was stripped of his NBA title because he wouldn't fight Mr. Day, probably because Day gave Lou a real beating in 1937 and was robbed in that fight. Canzoneri, Jenkins and Zivic wouldn't fight Davey, Fritzie remembers taking a beating from Day in amateurs. Sugar Ray Robinson (19 yrs old)1941 was going to fight Day and backed out, having Bob Mongomery fight Day instead. Davey lost that fight in the first round, having fought for 10 years from 1931. Davey was Barney Ross's policemen, you had to beat Davey to get a crack at Ross and all the best fighters (Tony Canzoneri ) wouldn't fight Davey. I am done goodnight.

    Hi Guys
For me, there is no doubt that Greb is No 1.
if any posters put, Armstrong / SRR / and Langford ahead of him, no problem with that, it would have to be between these 4 by my reckoning,
others may disagree, that's their provocative, and they are welcome to it.
    stay safe guys.
