Robinson was beatable at middleweight and I'd wager Jones brings a lot of things that Ray had never faced before against any of his fomidable opposition.

Jones at 160 had legit one punch KO power, superb defensive abilities, faster hands than Robinson and a unique ability to throw power shots from unorthodox angles.Jones also showed no signs of a weak chin at middleweight either.Remember Robinson had trouble ad******g to Randy Turpin's awkward style the first time and Jones was better than Turpin in just about every way.

Whether or not that's enough to beat Robinson at his best I don't know but I don't think the result is the foregone conclusion that some are saying. It will take a lot more than Ray just lobbing up,throwing a few combo's and Roy falling down,a lot more.

Well remember Jones also had trouble with Montell Griffith's awkward style the first time and was made to look ordinary, and I believe Turpin would beat Jones at middleweight, thats my honest opinion. He's got the power the angle's and brute strength, and great defense. Randy was a great fighter.

I agree with you that at middleweight, Jones has a better chance than people think. Much better. But dont forget that Sugar Ray was not a middleweight, he was really a welterweight (and even a decent lightweight). To compare in a lb 4 lb sense, you are really comparing lightweight vs middle, welter v light heavy, and middle v Cruiser (although jones never really fought there, he was a cruiser when he fought Ruiz, from memory) and finally Light Heavy v Heavy (Jones never fought the worlds best heavy like Ray did, but can anyone imagine him taking Vitali or Wlad through what Ray took the world light heavy champ through).

lb 4 lb, i think Ray is quite a bit ahead of Roy Jones Jr.

Absolutely he's way, way, way ahead of Jones p4p no doubt.

Jones was naturally larger, faster and had a unique style the likes of which I don't think Robinson faced and it's not inconceivable that all these attributes could lead to a Jones upset win.

Does that mean Jones is a better fighter?

No way known, just like Joey Maxim isn't better than Robinson nor Paul Pender,Joey Archer,Terry Downes etc, etc.

Turpin has a better chance of KOing Jones than many better punchers though. Awkward guy.

I've only seen Turpin-Robinson 2 and he did have a strange style. He kind of jerked away defensively, keeping low before springing in behind the jab and right hand and even after their previous fight it still seemed to surprise and confuse Robinson at times.

That said the right hand and follow up stoppage that Sugar Ray unleashed on Randy was brutal and impressive and is one of the reasons I don't favour Jones over Robinson at 160.Robinson could pick an opening as good as anyone,he carried his power late and once he had you hurt you were toast.

Jones might be able to win but he might not as well and Robinson is one of the very few I'd have as a starting favourite over Jones h2h at Middleweight.

Robinson said after he was hit by Levine he did not remember the fight until the 10th rd. Levine was not great but he had power and made an impression on Ray
