That was way back in the dinosaur days of UFC and Tim Sylvia was a big fat sloth who foolishly opted to stand with Mercer even though he was slower than an elephant in quicksand.

I'm talking about the MMA monsters of today

Did you not see the Triller Triad Combat tournament where they pitted a bunch of boxers and MMA fighters against each other under what was essentially was boxing rules? Guess who won? Yep, you guessed right the MMA fighters beat the boxer's asses under boxing rules. And the margin of victory would've been even wider for Team MMA had they not robbed two of the MMA fighters.

The most disturbing and humiliating aspect about it is the MMA fighters actually had better hands in virtually every instance. It took ages for the boxers to register their first KD and they were getting outboxed by MMA fighters for goodness sake. How many seconds do you think the boxers would've lasted in a grappling match vs the MMA fighters?

That's where we differ. I'm a boxing man through and through. I've always been a boxing man. Lost of people, we call them casuals, dig watching boxing if it's a big fight but I've always been a hard core fan and you'd be surprised at the pleasure I derived from burying my nose in boxing magazines back in the day. That being said, paradoxically, I do not respect boxers one bit and I consider boxing one of the weakest and most ineffective combat sports.

Add to that the fact he was terrible with money and made terrible choices with women.

A "smart" boxer would be someone like Lennox Lewis. Retired an unquestionable ATG, having beaten every man he faced, his health intact, financially set for life, with what seems a stable marriage. How much more can one accomplish as a fighter?

If the OP is referring to academic intelligence, I seem to remember Nathan Cleverly got a degree in Mathematics. If it is who is the smartest dressed I would say Canelo in his cowboy boots. If it is the smartest at picking and timing fights it would be Floyd. If it is the smartest in mind games, I think bellew job on Haye was superb. If it is ring iq I think Usyk is very hard to top. If it is business smart, Kalle for keeping the white powder flowing.

this didn't ask ring IQ. so, Tommy Fury and Jake paul are having a nothing fight and going to make a lot of money each.

For IQ Maybe Usyk, crawford. etc
