Thread title doesn't make any sense, but my favorite fighter is Anderson Silva. Dynamic striker, a finisher, and good submissions.
Thats the thing about Aoki haters, they will say that he could not take down this guy or that guy, but they don't want to talk about what could happen if they are taken down.
Because what somebody could or couldn't do on the ground is meaningless if they can't get the fight there. Did you learn nothing from Saturday's fiasco of a performance from Shields? Or Aoki's inept performance against Melendez. Or Maynard's tactics against Nate Diaz?
You are basing everything on Aoki's first cage appearence against another of the world's top LWs. Fighters that apppear in the cage the first time always have problems with the different environment, this is especially true for grappling where the wall plays a big factor.
I dont hate Aoki, I hate nuthuggers. Plainly and simply if you dont go to the ground with Shinya you win the fight
Fighting in the cage makes it easier for the grappler not harder. Yes if he performed well in a losing effort then you could put it down to being unfamilar in the cage but the man got absolutely humiliated by Melendez. And his takedowns never look particularly impressive in Japan. Its again the same thing I tried to explain to you about Shields - its not enough to say he takes people down, you have to look at the quality of the takedowns to judge whether they would work if were to take a step up in competition. Aoki's judo throws would be no good against any wrestler with greco-roman or folkstyle experience and his straight shots are too easily telegraphed.
wtf is this? taking credit away from aoki cuz he lost to melendez? i thought melendez was on of the best
