Not really son, as he is now the driving seat with his earning capacity Ring championship and profile, as opposed to when he was a underminded threat that had little benefit to their career and a decidedly tough fight.
JC stayed in UK way too long, he is only becoming a worldwide household name now, after he started chasing the big fights. If you are a challenger, no one is going to come to you to fight you, you have to make it all happen, which Calzaghe did not do for a long time. The sad thing is that if Calzaghe went down this path 4-5 years ago, he would have definitelly left more of an imprint than what he will now. Do you agree?
Calzaghe did stay in the UK way too long, but he listened to the advice of his promoter too much. Once he saw how Ricky Hatton's profile has rocketed worldwide and how much money he was making he decided to cross the pond. Pavlik does have a meaty right hand, which Joe can feast upon occasionally, but I just feel that he has sufficient ring savvy to work Pavlik out, could you really say the same about Pavlik? I can't.
Calzaghe should beat Pavlik,he has too much skill for him. I think Dawson has a better chance of beating Calzaghe due to his silky skills and fast hands. I would love to see Calzaghe fight them both.
I could see Calzaghe fighting either RJJ or Pavlik. But in my opinion I think Dawson is the only one who has a chance at beating him at this point. RJJ is 2 far past his prime (he would have beaten Joe C comfortably back in his best days) and Pavlik's style is tailor-made for Joe.
Why go down in weight? He Should fight a hall of famer like Roy Jones Jr. Styles make fights. And these 2 styles would be makings of a great fight.
For my interest and for great boxing, I want to see Calzaghe vs. Pavlik. But for Calzaghe, Jones makes the most sense, bigger name, more money, less risk. If Calzaghe makes the fight with Pavlik, I would have great respect for him, regardless of the outcome.
