Burt boxed Liston, and avoided engaging. Do you honestly think Baer would do the same, or has the skillset to do so? It's like saying "Willie Besmanoff goes 6 rounds with Liston, but Patterson can't make it past the first?" Do you understand now, or are you going to continue playing stupid, like you do every time you say Shavers never had a KO past the 7th, despite being told multiple times that it's not true
You think if you don't mention it, people won't know that you're talking about Muhammad Ali? And no, that's not even true. Liston outweighed Ali by 7.5 pounds in their first bout, and 9.25 pounds in their 2nd. Liston defeated everybody who held a size advantage over him, so I have no idea why you're trying to play that card.
Interesting…I’ve got Liston easy in this one but fair play to those, and there’s a few, who rate Max a far better chance than I ever would. If I seriously had to bet my house on it - it would be on Sonny. Just as long as he didn’t pull a Lewiston…then I’d have to come after him….. LOL Liston had far better skills, all round power and at least equal chin. I could see Sonny KO’ing Max…but given Maxes courage and own chin, he just might get very badly busted up before succumbing. Aside from its meaningful impact or not, the height pull would be noticeable. You only have to look to how Louis compared to Baer…and Louis was taller than Sonny. Prob talking a min. 2” pull for Max. Aside from height, Liston had the stats of a much taller, bigger man. Calves, thighs, forearms, biceps, reach, fist etc - as if, excluding height, he was genetically bred for boxing. Liston had heavy, clearly defined back and shoulder muscles too - but I wouldn’t say he was necessarily uniquely broad in the shoulders. Particularly when compared to Williams and Ali (Ali was quite broad himself). There are contentions over Liston’s true reach measurement - some also suggesting that the 84”’listing can be partially put down to exceptional shoulder width - but I don’t necessarily see that. In Liston I see notably disproportionate arm length with oversized palms and long fingers to go. There are a number of still shots/vision in which Liston’s shoulders don’t jump out at you (or at least me). There is plenty of vision and stills showing Liston jab at full stretch - the disproportionate arm length is clear and insane. Perhaps part proof of the pudding is to see so many opponents boxing at what they thought and what did appear to be a safe distance - only to still have that telescopic, power pole jab crash into their head. You could even see Ali having some difficulties adjusting to the unaccounted for extra freak inches. Baer and Big Cat had incredibly broad shoulders - and their listed reaches were similar - 81” vs 79” respectively - with some random variances in listings going around for each. If reach was to be comprise more shoulder width than average - it would be those two guys I would look to - but they were also clearly long armed anyway. Baer edged Braddock in height - Max prob closer to, if not actually, 6’3” than 6’2 1/2”. Braddock was a legit 6’2 1/2” and even in older age, during pre fight intros, he dwarfed the likes of Floyd Patterson. There was an old photo of Braddock with fist playfully place on Ali’s jaw - Jim looked on par in terms of height I think….but I haven’t see that photo for along time since. Some of the old guard weren’t quite as “small” as one might assume. When refereeing Frazier v Quarry, Joe Louis was clearly the biggest man in the ring..LOL…and he was as bad a ref as he was a prognosticator of fight outcomes …Ha! PS - the IMDb ref of 193 cm height is prob for Max Jr. (Jethro) or at least confused with Max Jr’s height.
Yeah, Max could even call up the old “The last one up is a……”. line, It would just be a tad awkward when Max is the only down. Even when Louis dropped him, Max still had the presence of mind and humour to salute from his collapsed position - a screw ball all the way down the line. LOL
I'm honestly very surprised because in literally EVERY Liston thread, Liston inevitably loses because "he QUIT..... ON HIS STOOL...... as champion"
Nope, Scarecrow. You aren't getting off the hook here. "One of the bigger men Liston faced" does not equate to "biggest" or "bigger than Liston". This is why you are on ignore. If you want to talk boxing with me, you have to be at a basic reading level. I can be patient but your attitude seals it. You either have a reading disorder that also makes you arrogant or deliberately post strawman arguments for attention. That is why I have you on ignore, will continue to have you on ignore, and encourage others to ignore you. Just letting you know that you are Waste of Time either way. I would encourage you to get a life. I told you before I was ignoring you for the time wasting strawmen replies....I come on here one time without being logged in and see you are still following me around replying with brain aching strawmen...take a hint.
"Nope Scarecrow. You aren't getting off the hook here." You're a clown You bring nothing to this forum outside of disgusting baseless pedophilic accusations, and insults when people disagree with you. You must be related to the mods or have them in your pocket or something, because you're never banned for your repulsive comments. Regarding your Ali beat Liston argument. I'm still unsure what point you're trying to make. Ali was smaller than Liston, and not even in the top ten biggest guys Liston faced. Oh yeah, and he was about as different aa fighter from Baer than you can get so I have no reason as to why you bought it up in the first place.
