So many posters on here didnt know Martinez until he fought Cintron and Williams and some not until he beat Pavlik. I think he was a bit past his prime then.
Martinez was known to fans in the UK a long time previous with wins over Stone and Williams.
Now I am a fan of Martinez, but he wouldnt beat Golovkin and I think it would be a very one sided fight. Martinez was never a big MW. Now I know Golovkin isnt, but Martinez was a former WW and only became a MW when a title opportunity came to fruition.
    Golovkin easily in my opinion

Williams was a decent puncher and hurt Martinez, but I feel Golovkin is a far bigger puncher

    Great write up.

The thing with Golovkin is that I'm struggling to persuade myself to NOT buy into the hype. I'd readily admit that his opposition has been sub-par thus far and he's yet to prove himself at the same level Martinez did.

Look at what happened to Bute. He was doing precisely the same as GGG up until he came up against a real elite - Froch has quite literally smashed Bute's career to pieces. Look at Pavlik when he came up against Hopkins, Broner when he came up against Maidana....

I really cannot wait to see GGG get in there with someone genuinely good. Lara/Canelo - or even anyone half accomplished at SMW - see what he's really capable of.

Er, Golovkin BLEW AWAY Macklin. Macklin went 11 rounds (I think) with Sergio.

I respectfully disagree. While I do think Martinez's chin isn't terrible I don't think its great or iron by any means. Also I think his defense was terrible and that would have spelled doom for him against GGG at any point.

It can be argued that Martinez was already shot at that point. Everyoboby was surprised at how bad he looked against Macklin.

Also it's true, he has been down against several opponents, but they were mostly OOB cases, due to him moving a lot.

People are thinking of the MARTINEZ-Cotto fight and jumping to conclusions.

The Martinez of Williams/Pavlik was an amazing fighter.
