Close fight that I could see going either way. If Ray fought like Duran I than I would give an edge to Pryor. But more than likely Ray would have learned from that and flurried his way to a decision rendering Pryors aggression to have limited effectiveness
Pryor’s best win was against Arguello, who was prime at 130 pounds in my opinion and who was no spring chicken. It’s a very big jump to fight a big welter with intelligence, power and AAA speed. Duran unlike “ the Hawk “ had already proven himself at 147 when he fought Leonard. SRL by stoppage around round 8.
Pryors a great fighter. Ray hits much harder and will catch him with that clean shot that takes him out IMO
Pryor would have been trouble for anyone at 140 to 147 pounds, and this includes Duran. What a war that would have been! In the end Sugar Ray's skills, chin, power and adaptability would take over, leading him to a later round stoppage.
Pryor is overrated he beat no great prime 135 or 140lb fighters Dujuan Johnson faceplants him SRL KO's him....the cocaine fueled fighting saw him beat unremarkable fighters 2 ATG past their best....fans put too much weight in the Arguello wins which in no way translates to a Duran, Hearns or SRL level at the next weight. The reason is fairly obvious why he turned down the Duran or SRL offers.....his MGMT knew he could not win so they wanted more money for a loss....if they thought he would win he would have been the money fighter in boxing....they didn't think he could win.
