PW would win. i would not even be surprised if it's by KO..wright must be close to his prime to beat PW but wright is no where close to his prime
Winky is under respected and under appreciated. He is one of the very best fighters of our time. However, when I examine my pro Winky bias, I have to admit that a big part of the reason I'm pully for Winky is that in my opinion Pavlik/Wright is a fight that MUST happen. Consider the following: 1; The record of fights with McKart. Winky fought a prime McKart 3 times, and beat him by SD, UD, and a DQ. Pavlik fought a faded version, and stopped him in the 6th round. McKart was faded but he had never been stopped before, and KP was coming off a long lay off due to career threatening hand surgery. 2; The record of fights with Jermain Taylor. Winky fought a draw with JT, but many people thought Winky won. Pavlik KOed JT at 160, and beat him by UD at 166. 3; When KP was coming up he called Winky out repeatedly, but Winky would not give Kelly the time of day. Can't blame him, since Pav was nobody in those days. 4; After Pavlik beat Taylor the first time, Winky demanded a fight, and accused KP of ducking him, but ultimately turned down a title shot, and a big pay day. 5; The consequence of points #3 and #4 is that there is bad blood between these two. 6; Any version of Winky that can beat Williams is far from shot. That means Pavlik/Wright would pit an offensive monster against a defensive master, and it just don't get better than that. 7; With Winky coming off a win over Williams, and Pavlik coming off a win over Abraham, this fight would be ****ing HUGE. Pavlik/Wright is a fight that must happen. It would be the biggest middleweight fight in ages, and the kind of fight that the second most prestigious division in boxing DESERVES!
I've said it before and other people seem to share my opnion, but if Wright has enough left to fight like he did against Taylor I think he schools Williams, but his inactivity and his age make me think that Paul's punch output, combined with his size and southpaw stance will give him a UD victory.
I'm going with Williams, but have almost no confidence in the pick. I see it as almost an even money fight. Way too many variables in play in this one to be able to reliably pick a winner.
