Well it were a real close fight, found it tough to score. Was all a big ugly really. Easter was the home fighter and was also the aggressor in the fight, Fortuna was deducted a point too, ridiculous deduction but you should be deducted points for weight cheating anyway. I dont think as a Boxing fan im guna lose any sleep over this result but then i wouldnt if it went the other way either. It was no robbery, was just close and ugly. This is just a fight to move on from. Easter is not as good as some people like to make him out to be, thats the only thing i take away from it.
Haven't seen the entire fight, but it seems like the vast majority had Fortuna winning close. If he got robbed, or just on the bad side of a wrong decision, I won't cry for him though as he clearly tried to sway the odds in his favor coming in overweight. He played the system, and got played by the system. It did show that Easter isn't the second coming of Christ in any way. Despite being in a weak division, he probably shouldn't be rated in the LW top5
I can't think of 5 boxers in his division who's better than him. Garcia, linares and that's it at 135 who's clearly better.
Many that are clearly better, no... but a little better at least. Commey (proven), Davis and then you have Beltran, Flanagan, Verdejo and maybe even Campbell who you could make a good case for to be rated above him.
I thought Easter bested commey. Beltran and verdejo, possibly.. Flanagan? Hell no. Campbell still has some proving to do.
I did too, as well as the Shafikov and Fortuna matches, he strikes me like a low level far less talented version of BJS, always fighting down to the level of his competition, and occasionally like Rances Barthelemey, thinking his opponents can't hurt him, he allows himself to be drawn into pointless wars that he could avoid if he relied on his skills a little more.
The point deduction was fair, he was dirty with that ****, then continued to try and do it. I had Fortuna winning regardless. Don't put much stock in the performance though, as one man drained down and cut the weight, and the other guy only came within a pound and a half. Not really a level playing field.
Yeah, I'm thinking he won't ever get over the hump and realize his potential. Second fight in a row that he probably didn't deserve the decision.
I think a draw would be fair enough. I think a rematch isn't insane. I know Easter Jr. is the weakest champion in his division.
