No I'm not, and I have much respect for K.Norton but his record against big punchers speaks for itself. And No in my opnion his skill level wasn't on the Old Mongoose level . That's not a swipe at Norton because plenty of fighters wasn't on his level.

Lol that is like saying because Floyd Mayweathrer is more skilled than Buster Douglas so that means he could beat Tyson too.. Ken Norton was close to 6'3 220. Moore was a 5'10 170 pound guy, Show me a fight where Shavers lost to a 170 pound fighter. Norton was knocked out by the 6'3 230 pound Foreman, 6'5 230 pound Gerry Cooney, the 6'0 210 pound Shavers. Archie Moore was knocked down and out by far smaller guys than Shavers.

Ali was out of shape in the first Norton fight and in the rematch Norton just pressed with his cross armed defense, Ali couldn`t really deal with that and looked much better during his 60`s prime, in the third Ali was a shadow of his former self and there was more to Archie`s game than just using a cross armed defense, Norton did jab with Ali though which knocked him off his usual flowing style because Ali set everything up with the jab, Norton looked a lot slower than Moore when he fought Holmes though, it just turned into a brawl later in the fight.

Good point, but a 170 lbs fighter would do more damage to Tyson or Shavers than 147lbs fighter like Floyd.

How many fights did Mayweather have at heavyweight? Shavers wasn't that much bigger than Moore at 6'0 210lbs. By the way, Shavers did lose to a Lt.heavyweight, also lost quite a few fighters that were not much bigger than Moore, yet had half the skill level.

Folding against big punchers like Durelle? Norton beat Muhammed Ali, probably at least 2 times! he stopped Jerry Quarry badly, it's arguable that Norton toward the end of his career beat a prime Larry Holmes. Norton would KO Archie brutally,,,,,,,just like Shavers would.

God you people are so freaking clueless. Archie Moore was a 5'10 170 pound guy. No matter how skilled you want to think he was he wasn't a heavyweight. Ken Norton was a heavyweight. If all it took was skill to be heavyweights then why don't you see 5'10 170 pound guys now competing at heavyweight?

Norton looked slower than Larry when they fought, Moore had a lot more speed than Ken and Earnie.

Shavers by mid round kayo. Archie would make it uncomfortable for 2 rounds, but once Earnie connects, it is over.

Archie Moore stops Earnie Shavers, Earnie had some big guns in his dukes but his chin is another story. Archie was a very skilled fighter with a good defense, and also had been tagged by big hitters before. Archie by TKO 3.

I can't believe that you have people here trying to sell that shavers was close in size to archie moore and the argument is the height, weight and reach lmao. Earnie shavers had A MUCH BIGGER FRAME THAN ARCHIE MOORE. He had bigger head, bigger thorax, bigger hands, wider shoulders. Archie Moore was a ripped guy but when he was fighting at hw weighing 185 pounds he was packed of muscle. He was a much smaller man than Shavers. He was a former middle weight.

This man was naturally much smaller than Shavers.

Ali was around 225 pounds in this fight.and shavers what?211? And still looked very big for his weight, it is because he had a big frame

Same discussion, same result - Archie would school Shavers and knock him out later.

Archie Moore had a heavyweight record of somewhere around 64-4-3-46, meaning his resume above 175 is better than about 98% of most men who spent their whole careers there. Earnie Shavers was slow, crude, one dimensional and lacked in stamina. But a fierce overhand right could have stopped a man in his tracks, especially a smaller one... This is a pickem fight for me, but I’m inclined to lean a little bit towards Archie
