    Nice avatar :good

If you know where I could find some nice Nunn avatar's, a PM would be much appreciated.

Holyfield should be credited as having one of the biggest hearts in boxing, rather than one of the best chins.

There is no case to be made that Holyfield has the greatest chin. He's been hurt and down far too often throughout his career to have that kind of claim. If you want to mention him for heart, I won't object, but not chin, even if he was very durable.

In a high-octane "violent chess" style top-class shoot-out, I do not believe Locche's defence would have been as sharp or as tight as Whitaker's. I would trust Whitaker to cope with rapid rapier-like attacks more comfortably than Locche who, for all his artistry, was a bit pedestrian by comparison IMO.

I agree, I think Holyfield had an excellent chin, but it was nowhere near the very top echelon. Pea who do you think has a legitimate claim to the best chin ever?

i know im noone to say anything

but in my opinion the best chin ever was marvin hagler he could take any punch and the fact he was a freak because he had a thicker than usual skull and thicker muscles around his skull and a strong neck

ill use a quote about marciano to sum up hagler

it would be like hitting the side of a rhino

Yeah but if you look at it like someone gets hit in the face, and not with a sack of potatoes, although density nearly if.

Locche wouldn't have fared as well as Whitaker because he lacked the all around skills that Whitaker posessed, but in terms of defense from a technical standpoint, I've never seen it done more impressively than Locche's shell defense, especially from a stationary position.

One thing about Locche. He wasn't as well rounded as Whitaker when it comes to defense and offense combined. But IMO his overall way of defending oncoming offense worked better than Whitaker's, who would not stand in front of an opponent, flat-footed, with his hands down and make them miss the target altogether. Locche was more inclined to be 'straight up and down' with both gloves tucked into his chin at the best of times though. He ducked under punches and bent his knees extremely well.

I watched 45 mins of Willie Pep a couple nights ago and I don't believe his defense was as good as Whitaker's inside. From the brief footage I seen of various Pep fights, he prefered to hold than defend up close when feeling the heat. Whitaker did at times, but he also crouched and used one arm to defend bodyshots and the other to guard his chin aka 'twisting inside' would be my way of terming it.

robbi willy pep was a defensive master on the outside and the very rare times he did actually get on the inside he held but he hardly ever got inside

look at his 2nd fight against sandy saddler that was him at his best. that fight in my opinion was the best defensive fight fought by one fighter i have ever seen that fight proves he is/was the defensive master

between sweet p and locche i would say sweet p was the better defensive fighter because he was harder to actually touch and i think that makes a better defence as it dis heartens opponents. albeit i have only saw a small fraction of locche and will watch more of his fights

Pep was in bad trouble late on against Saddler in that fight imo.Still a great performance though.

Defensive fighter...Sweet Pea harder to actually touch so as i said before dis heartens opponent.

Puncher...Freitis, this guy had huge punching power and for a while was the only champ with a 100% KOs

Chin....Hagler, had a brilliant chin never ever hurt

Speed(overall)...F. Mayweather, had the better reflexes and foot speed and i think he would be quicker over 1 punch but not a combo

Yes, I know he was a defensive master. I thought I'd bring him into the mix along with Whitaker and Locche as he's from the same cloth. And I stand by what I said earlier when I compared Pep and Whitaker inside when it came to various ways of defending.

Pep's placement of his stance; taking steps, was as good as I've seen. His jab was thrown beautifully against much taller fighters than himself. Sometimes doubled, and tripled.
