I have to say this is great. I am fed up at my work with the total lack of knowledge and disinterest in boxing. However when it's Wimbledon, F1 or the national snake throwing championships everyone comes out as a major tennis fan, motor racing enthusiast or snake throwing groupie (you get my point...) When we know they arent but find these things worthy of deep conversation and speculation (so why aint boxing getting love hey). If I had a pound for every "alpha" male at my place who claims to love boxing but couldn't name a single current World Champion, I would be a very rich man.

So many times people have been ignorant of huge fights in the states or over here, I may as well be speaking in tongues when I am enthusing about them. With this one however I have women gossiping about it, people asking me how this one will go and probably 15 or so non-boxing fans are getting the PPV. This is excellent and has to be good for the sport. Let's pray it's an exciting fight and we win some more fans over.

And? Boxing itself was more popular in their days.

The interest for this bout is high on ESB nevermind the the general public! There are 14 Haye related threads on the front page of the general forum and 11 in the Brit forum, even Wlad/Vitali rarely, if ever, get 25 active threads on the front pages of ESB about their upcoming fights. Regardless of whether you dislike Haye, he has done a fine job of getting people talking about him both in the boxing community, and like this thread points out, also in the general public.

Agree completely. Was speaking to afew of the lads at work who not boxing fans and mentioned that whilst this is a big fight next week on Sky 1 was even bigger. Who is it? Pac v Cotto. Who? The guy who beat Hatton. The reply came oh small guys... :patsch

    Absolute zero interest!!

It's funny. I spend 90% of the time wishing more people would be interested in boxing, then when it happens I wish they'd all just **** off back to the football.

All I've heard this week is opinions that start with:

'I don't watch much boxing but...."

    Followed by:

5 minute bull**** polemic on Haye's career to date, his strengths and flaws and why he probably should win, liberally sprinkled with every boxing cliche in the book (dodgy 'whiskers' etc. etc.)

    Finished with:
'But a good big'un beats a good little'un, so I'm going with Valuev by stoppage'

I just can't wait for the fight to be finished, then everyone can move on:yep

I'm not arsed either way TBH, I just don't think this fight is going to be the renaissance in the sport that some people are hoping.

:lol:No it won't be.It'll still be a state with Wladimir and Vitali, who will still be widely regarded as #1 and #2,not fighting one another and still the same contenders.Just that the WBA champion will have some charisma and will probably be tied in to fight for King or some **** anyway
