Mayweather's the best boxer. It's a matter for debate and future fights whether he's the best fighter or not. The orthodox vs unorthodox talent battle is one that can only really be settled by getting in the ring and finding out.

Mayweather has beaten Marquez since he came out of "retirement".
Mosley is coming off beating Margarito (even though it was over a year ago), Margarito was #1 Welterweight at the time, so why is it stupid?

That would never work, due to weight classes, Mosley could have never fought Jones when he was no 1 p4p, Mayweather cfouldnt fight Hopikins etc.

If mayweather beats Mosley he takes the number one spot, if Mosley wins then Pac keeps it and Mosley moves to number 2

I see where your coming from but whoever wins from pbf vs ssm should then face pac if pac doesn't lose of course. If Pac loses the new p4p should be the winner of pbf vs smm, IMO.

Floyd never lost so floyd is still number 1. Floyd is linear welterweight champion.

Pac had a belt that was vacant and given to cotto for beating jennings:dead

Definitely, if Pacquiao loses, the new P4P is the winner of Mayweather Mosley.

Floyd never lost, but he "retired", due to inactivity and other big bouts happening whilst he was "retired" he is not still number 1. And no he's not linear Welterweight Champion.

At this moment of time current p4p is Pacman, not Floyd. Whether Floyd is a better fighter or not hes not #1 at the moment.

You gotta beat the man. If Pac was a cruiser or something maybe Mayweather's win over Mosley could put him #1 but as they're both operating at 147 the only way for Floyd to be #1 is beat Pac.

Why is it that Pacquiao doesn't need to beat unbeaten Floyd Mayweather to be number 1 whereas Floyd needs to beat Manny to be number 1?

If we were discussing that, it might be a valid point. We're discussing what happens after May.

If Pacquiao looks as dominant in the Clottey fight as he did against Cotto, there's no real reason to demote him from #1, no matter what happens in Mayweather-Mosley, IMO.

If he looks poor (by his standards) and struggles to a decision and the winner of Mayweather-Mosley looks amazing in that bout, there may be a case for switching them.

If Pac loses, then the winner of Mayweather-Mosley has a stronger claim on the number 1 spot.

At the moment I don't think the Pac-Clottey fight will be close enough to threaten Pac's position. If anything, both fights are going to be competitive but clear UDs, in which case Pac stays #1.

Cus he retired, and dont use unbeaten as an excuse cus theres many fighters other than floyd who are currently unbeaten.

Its like saying if tyson came out of retirment you wouldnt be saying Vitali has to beat tyson to be #1 cus tyson was one of the best heavweights in the world.

EDIT - the tyson example is a bit stupid but people should get what i mean.
