Who's Greater Canelo or Ward

Who said they never mattered to me? I always pointed out how close the press scores were in the first fight. Even though GGG was seen s the overwhelming winner, I always pointed out that it was by a very narrow margin. I don't think you can claim victories by press scores, as there's expectation bias, style bias and favoritism involved. However, the margin of the press scores is indicative of how close and competitive a fight is seen generally. A fight with an average press score of 7-5 should be treated very differently than a fight with an average press score of 11-1 for example.

 

You mean like Canelo vs Bivol for example?

 

The press scores of Canelo Bivol were wider than the judges had it, but not as wide as the press scores for Canelo GGG 3. And Canelo Bivol was a more exciting and entertaining fight because both fighters came to fight from the opening bell. The early rounds of Canelo Bivol were highly competitive back and forth, and far more entertaining on a RBR basis than Canelo GGG 3.

 

Canelo got beat far worse than GGG did.

 

The boxRec consensus fans score for Bivol vs Canelo is 118-110.

 

In terms of punishment, probably, Bivol is a LHW and was far more active of a puncher and more accurate than GGG was in the 3rd fight. Canelo had far more sustained success against Bivol (rounds 1-4 & 9) than GGG had vs Canelo. Canelo's uppercuts on Bivol in the early rounds were way better than anything GGG landed all fight.

 

GGG won four rounds in a row as well as the first round, you can make a case for round 6 and round 8 as well, this fight was close and GGG only gave about 40%.

 

You're in the small minority who saw it as close. Almost everybody on the night saw it as very one-sided and when the scores were read the universal reaction were shock at how close the scores were. I demonstrated that in the Press scoring topic. However if you can find some pro boxers or press scorers who had it 115-113, a draw or a GGG win let me know. If it was a close as you say it is, then I'd expect to see some people arguing GGG won. I don't see anyone in the press arguing that or even a draw. All I seem to find is mostly 9-3s to 11-1s in favor of Canelo and people outraged at the 115-113. For Example :
