Robinson was very hard to hit - which was one of the factors listed above.

Oh I don't know maybe the times when he has spoken to the commentators during his fights. Or maybe the time he stood in the corner and invited Zab to hit him with hand motions to his chin. Or maybe the time he told Sharmra Mitchel's corner "he aint gonna land it" when they told him to throw the straight left.

The second part about Pernell I won't even respond to.

UliUli ... you must have never seen Mayweather use his jab before ... when he used it ... it was a great weapon.

Yes but he wasn't a pure boxer.

Robinson wasn't a pure boxer why would you put him up there? He didn't use defense to the extent as some of the others at all.

He was never out of the fight ... when he did that he was always focused on his opponent.

He never once took his mind off his opponent during those times ... he always fought smart.

Neither one of those times did Floyd change his stance, come out of his technique or drop his guard. Being cocky in the ring is not, bobbing and weaving like Sweat Pea pinned in the corner, not using any known conventional boxing technique or fighting with your hands behind your back and knocking a guy out like Roy Jones.

    See the difference?

This is the problem with the thread.

Lopez was fantastic and fits the bill.

SRR & Roberto Duran are two of the most complete fighters ever, and I wouldn't have a problem with them being called to top 2 greatest fighters ever, but pure boxing skill, both fall a little short when compared to the other choices.

To comment on another post, I believe both Whitaker and Mayweather were supreme athletes, and if anyone was a superior natural athlete, it was PBF. Pernell's skills allowed him to show off against world class comp. Head and upper body movement, along with balance are part of boxing skill to, and what Pernell did to show off never went outside of those skills.

Whitaker got himself in trouble doing this. I still don't understand how Mayweather is a better pure boxer than Pernel because Pea like to clown.

Acb ... I think that Robinson set the standard for the modern day boxer ... he had savvy, good footwork & movement, a decent jab, accuracy, and timing - his overall skill was ahead of his time.
