Foreman without question. I'd say Tua and Lewis rank behind Shavers and Tyson who I'd both rank immediately after Foreman in terms of overall power.

No disrespect to this thread, but Foreman and Earnie Shavers are pretty much in a class of their own when speaking of pure power from the right hand. Tyson and Lewis come next with Tua closely behind.

And that's it. Foreman has that huge clubbing power whilst a Lewis say was possibly slightly less heavy but much more crisp.

Tyson was IMO some way behind Foreman and even Lewis in terns of one punch power. His power was generated partly from his handspeed and his power in his prime was magnified due to his terrific combination punching. Tyson is perhaps the most devasting short-armed puncher of all time (because of the above traits plus his power) but for one shot power there are more than a few ahead of him. Tua is probably a bigger single shot hitter for example. Bonecrusher Smith said that Frank Bruno was a much bigger puncher than Tyson.

Also, I can understand why you might put Shavers out on his own but why Foreman too?

As others have said it's a different kind of power; Foreman and Tua clubbing power and Lewis leaning more towards clean, dynamic power.

I think those who say that Lewis and Tua had better single punch power, while Foreman was probably a more consistant pounder overall, said it best. Goerge was not known for single one punch devastation, but every shot he hit you with hurt, no matter which hand he used, nor where it landed. Lewis and Tua both had better sting in one good shot, but they had to land it at the right place and right time for it to count.

I defintley dont think lennox rates in tysons league as a puncher. Tyson knocked out world class DURABLE men who had never been stopped or down before. I dont think lennox ever even floored a durable fighter.

The majority of Tyson's power comes from his legs. He had huge calves and thighs which combined with his handspeed, made his punches that more devastating. Tua's legs are just as powerful, slightly bigger and if not a bit more powerful than Tysons. The difference between Tua's punching power and Tyson's is the fact that Tyson had more natural upper body strength than Tua and had more handspeed with explains the sharpness of his punches.

Foreman, Liston and Shavers had serious arm and upper body strength but only Foreman can compare with Tyson and Tua in terms of leg strength.
This is the very reason why I feel that Foreman is the hardest puncher of all time overall. He may be slightly behind Shavers in terms of right hand power and slightly behind Liston in terms of left hand power but he's the exception overall with his upper and lower body strength.

Lennox Lewis has very good upper and lower body strength and is a better athelete than Foreman, but he doesn't possess the pound for pound power that Big George had.

Lewis KO'd a 28 year old Ruddock who had just gone 12 with Tyson in in just two rounds. Yeah, I know, You're going to say that Ruddock was ruined by Tyson, but I also bet that you're going to ignore the fact that most of Tyson's earlier victoms were ruined as well, so the argument has already evened out.

Ruddock destroyed Golata in a single round, who had previously given your new found friend a whipping. He crushed Briggs like he had never been beaten before. He was the only man to ever stop Gary Mason in some 38 fights, and did it when he was a 15 fight novice. He put a serious dent in vitali Klitschko's face, something that a lot of great fighters, probably wouldn't have done.

CONCLUSION: Let me say that I believe Tyson was the harder puncher of the two, but let's not get carried away with crap like " I don't think Lennox ever floored a durable fighter. "

That's a bunch of nonsense, and you damn well know it

just look at this power first

David Tua easily had heavier hands than mike tyson. You can clearly see this by watching tysons fights. there comes a point in a tyson fight where the guy decides to stand infront of him. cos his speed starts to fade which for tyson means he loses power. also tyson wasnt known for having late power. tua was cos his hands are naturally VERY heavy.

also George knew this, he did not want no part of tua, i always got this impression he respects tua. watch his fight against wilson and georges commentating after the fight. george didnt respect tyson like he respected tua.

also if you watch tua v lewis. lewis runs all night even when hes winning. on the other hand when he fights tyson, he starts backing tyson up!
i think i read tua's punch was measured and it was a harder punch than mikes.
mike wasnt a MURDEROUS puncher. thomas who fought mike for a title said that tommy morrsion hit harder. he must have done cos he never come out for the second round. :deal
mike is a great puncher but he is a notch below guys like foreman, shavers, morrison and tua. :yep

Firstly, they are different kinds of fighter, one is almost purely offensive in nature, the other is not.

    Seconldy, Ruddock.

Honestly, some of the stuff here makes me just shake my head...like Tua having faster hands than Tyson.

Who's to say who hit harder? What is 'hard' anyway? Surely we should be talking about force, which is mass*speed. Anyway...

Show me a Foreman fight where he lands a shot as hard as the one Lewis landed on Rahman - as devastating KO as there as ever been.
George was super strong but not terribly precise. He had god-awful force behind his punches, nobody can deny that, but as a pure knockout puncher there have been those that have done the job better. Probably both those listed above, and a cetain M. Tyson.

Also, Tyson hit goddamn hard - as hard as anyone. Durable fighters like Tubbs, Botha and Berbick were all iced with a single shot. The Botha KO was particularly impressive as the punch travelled just a few inches.

Tua's left hook landed with frightening force and Ruiz and Moorer can attest to that. Rahman and Maskaev are also durable fighters that got starched.

I disagree, while Tua was quicker than Foreman, I think George had more pure power. I also think Liston hit harder than any of the guys you mentioned.

That was devastating as well. Many heavies would have crumpled under such a punch, imo. It's impossible to clearly determine who hit harder than who here, but obviously we can reasonably assume certain fighters are in the top bracket.
