Probably Crawford’s because it was even more dominant but Taylor’s run and whole career to date has been impressive. I do suspect he might have reached his ceiling though. I cannot see him surviving the shark infested water at 147 pounds.
You are trying to work to hard to claim Taylor’s reign was greater at 140. It’s not. Both had tremendous reigns becoming undisputed champion but if anything Bud’s performances were even more dominant which is saying something because JT has been fantastic his whole career to date. Also Bud is 3 eight division world champion and arguably P4P champion so no doubt he is above JT for now.
And because, duh, Taylor had a much steeper learning curve considering he unified an entire division in 18 fights and Crawford didn't even win a world title until his 23rd fight
I am a bit uncomfortable with a thread like this for one reason because choosing one side might appear you are denigrating the other which should and must be far from the case. Both guys are serious operators which we should all recognize. A while back when discussing the threads on Tank I am one who thinks he can take JT but as I have been at pains to point out JT is also a special beast. Back in the days when I was a young lad I expected Sugar Ray Leonard to lose the match against Tommy Hearns but this was not because I did not rate Leonard as a fighter because I did I knew he was another one cut from a different cloth. These guys are rare. JT has been absolutely fantastic at Junior Welterweight. Not much between him and Regis Prograis.
Not much between JT and Prograis, and of course the Rougarou KO'd Indongo quicker and in better fashion than Bud. Not that I put much stock in A beats B beats C and all that, but I think it's a fairly strong argument that Bud was more dominant at 140 than Taylor because of the level of comp - Postol being a fairly obvious stand out, aside from that (where Bud all but stunk out the joint in that fight I felt, on his bike the latter half of the fight inexplicably), what else was there at 140 for Bud? Indongo, Dulorme, Lundy, Felix Diaz? I'd expect Taylor to dominate and stop those guys as well - and Regis did with Indongo...
You mention Indongo but Bud got there first and if my memory is correct destroyed him when he was an unbeaten fighter. Getting there first and winning gives you more bragging rights. Pacquiao stopped Hatton much quicker than Floyd did but the truth is Floyd got there first and systematically beat up the then undefeated Hatton and as we know he just did not beat but damaged him psychologically as well. I think we should ask ourselves who would win between Bud and JT and we know Bud would win.
Maybe, or maybe just Indongo was not all that much and would always have lost in the fashion he did to Prograis? And we don't KNOW that Crawford would beat Taylor - he'd be a heavy favourite for sure, but it's hard to guage given Bud currently @147 and Taylor never having fought there. The Crawford @140 vs Taylor @140 would have been a doozy; and whilst Crawford may well prevail, he wouldn't have had an easy night, Taylor is not easy for anyone. Of course this is based on my own viewing of Postol as common opponent and also based on Crawford against a gunshy Ricky Burns, where he really did not impress me a huge amount. Taylor would have stopped that version of Burns I'm convinced. But anyway, it's not likely to happen for a while yet, we may see later in 2022!
Not to the head, but to the body - Burns was teak-tough in the chin, but I think Taylor would have worked that body. But that's just a call, who knows?
