well you fill out as you get older.

Pac was winning world titles as a teenager, Roy Jones was not. Who is not naturally a lot bigger at 25 than at 17?

A fair way to judge would be to track their weight gain by age. You have to remember boxers except at heavy dehydrate and try and come in at their smallest size. So the nor for boxers is to fight a couple weight classes below their natural weight. Joe Calzaghe was naturally 200 pounds when he moved from 168 to 175. His ring weight was about 178.

Pac general fights at 145 ring weight. In other words today he could still make light welter and light weight. In reality he is about 10 pounds heavier than his natural weight at 25.

As you get older you do continue to put weight on after 30, normally you are 20 pounds heavier at 45 than 25 if you do not get fat. Pac's weight looks perfectly natural to me. If he had won his first world title at 25 it would likely be at featherweight or lightweight.

Jones easy. People were talking about Pac being outweighed by Margarito, but Jones was outweighed by over 30lbs by ruiz. Jones fought at Heavyweight even though he couldn't even make it above cruiserweight for his fighting weight.

Yes,but amount of those weightclasses in Pac range makes them useless while comparing who made bigger move up

RJJ from Middle to Heavyweight , the stuff of legends.

Also Manny's weight classes are closer together so it is easier to cover more classes.

    112-150 - 38 pounds

    160-199 - 39 pounds

Virtually the same weight difference, Pac went threw like 9 division or so. But those divisions were only seperated by like 3 pounds which is ****en bull****.

Pacquaio has the better resume but personally winning a belt from Middleweight and winning a belt at Heavyweight is just great even if it was John Ruiz. Who was top 3 Heavyweight at the time.

    Oscar De La Hoya
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Antonio Margarito
    Ricky Hatton
    Erik Morales x2
    Marco Antonio Barerra x2
    Oscar Larios
    Chatchai Sasakul
    Miguel Cotto
    Joshua Clottey
    Lehlohonolo Ledwaba
    Jorge Solis

    Bernard Hopkins
    Jorge Castro
    Antonio Tarver
    Montell Griffin
    Eric Harding
    James Toney
    Merqui Sosa
    Thulani Malinga
    Reggie Johnson
    Clinton Woods
    John Ruiz
    Virgil Hill
    Julio Cesar Gonzalez
    Thomas Tate

Pac has the better resume but like I said winning a belt from Middleweight to Heavyweight is just great.

The fact thar Roid was caught using, and he always took the easy route to a title should clear this discussion up right now.

This was my reasoning behind it. Pacquiao was always going to hit the Lightweight/Light Welter range at some point (his more natural weight)...the fact that he has improved has helped significantly. Like I said, still very, very impressive.

But Middleweight to Heavyweight...especially considering the size/mass difference between the two weights, is unbelievably impressive. Ruiz wasn't the greatest opposition, but what can you expect...

ps: i can guarantee the people who are voting for Roy are the same guys who lamented Haye for taking on Ruiz by calling Ruiz awful and **** etc:lol:

No. I had never heard of Pacquiao when he made his pro debut...like 99.9% of people on here. But he made his debut when he was what...16? He had not finished growing at that point, which is probably the main reason he jumped up 2 weight classes after his 2nd KO loss.

He was re-hydrating upto what, 140+ when he was fighting at 130(?)...if not earlier.

140lbs looked very natural for him...he has truly been fighting above his weight since then.

You could make that argument. Ruiz is definitely better than Margacheato plus he didn't cheat. And I think people had a problem with Haye fighting Ruiz because of his age. But nonetheless, Roy was giving up so much in weight, even though I didn't really think it matter because he was a lot faster than ruiz.

  13. well pacquiao never even made the Jr Middleweight mark , Roy Jones Jr's gain was more impressive

It's kind of tricky to argue 'of course Pac would get bigger', but than marvel at RJJ's division growth. If I'm not mistaken, RJJ won his first title (non-world) thumping Harris at SMW at 21-22. He then fought a handful of fights down at MW (winning title against BHOP), and moved quickly back to SMW. Moved to light heavy later in his 20's.

RJJ's was an almost 6 foot, solid-frame MW/SMW in his early 20's who 'naturally grew' into LHW (His one HW bout he blew himself as big as possible at 190+ to take on no power/no speed WBA fraud Ruiz, and was never the same after). You can't ding Pac for 'growing into his body' exactly as RJJ did.
