So that doesn't matter Larry Holmes only fought bums it might not have been his fault but when considering whos an ATG it doesn't matter if he beat the best opposition because they were bums.
We are not even discussing Holmes' ATG status, we are discussing his status as "the man" in the HW division during his time. It is unquestionable. While it was a weak division, he fought and beat everyone available to him and was clearly the #1 HW in the world. Jones never did anything remotely similar. He carefully manuevered his way through the divisions and cherrypicked vacant or trinket titles whilst avoiding anyone and everyone who could punch.
why is the weight issue considered as a legitimate excuse for Jones for his loses to Tarver and Johnson while everybody consider that his best carrier win was over Toney ... when Toney was forced to lose even bigger number of lbs before the fight?
Toney actually was weight drained AND out-of-shape, and it was painfully obvious. The guy had already eaten himself out of MW and he was working on doing the same at SMW. On the other hand, we have the numbers to prove that weight loss and weight drain had **** all to do with Glass Jaw Jones struggling with Tarver. On fight nights for his LHW bouts, Jones weighed in at 186. On fight night for Ruiz, he weighed 193. That is seven pounds of difference. Also, he had eight months between Ruiz and Tarver to shed that terribly large amount of "pure muscle". The weight drain bit is no better an excuse than "I let Tarver beat me up so my dad wouldn't get credit".
atschatschatsch Because there's a difference between draining lbs. MUSCLE out of your body while in your mid-30's as opposed to FAT while being in your athletic prime. Not to mention Toney had fought at the exact same weight just a few months previously and the Jones fight was already signed in the same weight class before that fight even took place.
Read my previous post before you spout anymore of this garbage. The whole "25 lbs of PURE MUSCLE" bit is pure, unadulterated horse****.
Your point is fallacious, sir. Because ultimately he had to drain himself down to 175 in order to make weight. The fight night weight is irrelevant. There are several other examples of fighters draining less weight out of their body than Jones did and having similarly and uncharacteristically bad outings. BTW, i don't blame Jones decline ALL on weight, although it was obviously a big factor. But the primary factor is his style of fight. Guys that rely to heavily on either, speed, athleticism or a style of fight that requires a high workrate and constant movement (the latter doesn't apply to Jones) generally hit the wall at or around the age of 35. Also, some Toney's best performances @ 160 & 168, before training camp, he walked around at about 190-200. So that excuse isn't valid at all. BIG BIG difference between draining fat out of your body compared with draining muscle out of your body.
he entered Tarver fight at 173 lb ... that is 20 lb difference from Ruiz ... in 7 months it is 2.5 lb per month in average, Toney lost around 30+ lb in half of this time, so no matter if that was fat only it should affect his performance a lot.
You are daft. His fight night weight at LHW is completely relevant because we are talking about how much "pure muscle" he supposedly added to fight Ruiz. It was seven pounds. That means that he had eight months between the Ruiz and Tarver fights to lose that measly seven pounds and have his original cut of ten to eleven pounds of water weight for LHW. He did not gain or lose any significant amount of muscle and you are kidding yourself if you think that had anything to do with Tarver beating him up and subsequently shattering his Glass Jaw a fight later. Toney was actually weight drained, that means that he showed up to fight Jones significantly overweight and had to cut that weight in the sauna. That is what weight draining is, not losing seven pounds in eight months, and Toney was severely effected by it. That being said, Toney is highly overrated anyway.
Devon, are you sure that your reading comprehension ability is great enough for you to be conversing with adults? I said that P4P rankings are not real. They are nothing more than make-believe lists for nuthuggers to put their heroes names on. Divisional rankings are not much better given the fact that most of the players do not fight one another, but in some cases, including that of Holmes, it is obvious who the best is because the Top 10 are all fighting one another. Roid lost a measly seven pounds of muscle in eight months. Toney shed loads of fat and, most significantly, drained himself in the sauna because he was still way over. There is no comparison here, nuthugger.
