Povetkin- lots of clnching, Povetkin caused a lot of it though by rushing in low and swinging wildly. Hard not to clinch when a guy 5 inches smaller than you is constantly running into your chest. Still you can blame wlad as well
Leapai- minimal clinching
Pulev- very little clinching

7 fights since Haye and in only one of them could you describe the clinching as excessive and it wasn't exclusively his fault, the klitshcko clinching thing is blown way out of preportion these days, its like the only thing some people can cling onto to discredit him

 

Russ Amber, a good Canadian boxing trainer and fight ****yst said it best. A boxer doesn't have to make big movements laterally like Ali did to make his opponent miss. If you move your head just 4 inches to the side you make your opponent miss his punch just as well if you move your head 18 inches. You are also in a better position to counterpunch that missed punch. Jake Lamotta and Roberto Duran are great examples of this boxing strategy. It takes courage as most punches barely miss or graze the face but it is a devastating yet simple tactic. It is not as impressive to see like Ali dancing and weaving all over the ring but it works.

ahryt you know more than me about him id say, i watched him just against haye then povektin and then pulev didnt watch them other ones, i just thought he wasnt great on his feet against pulev he looked a little more akward to me , i was up for him but he did clinch too much for me and he didnt really move laterally much a lot was them too standing right in front of each other, hope im wrong though and he keeps going

douglas wasnt that big. big daddy bowe didnt have good footwork, dont know where u get that from, thats why he had to inside fight with much smaller fighters, because he couldnt outbox them from a distance.

 

Yeah, that is what I saw too. Pulev hurt Wlad with a jab early and his height and reach messed up Wlad a bit. So, Wlad did what he always does when he encounters an awkward opponent. He adjusts. He saw an opening for an outside left hook and it worked so he stayed in front of Pulev until he finished him off with it. But you are right. Wlad's lateral movement was bad and Pulev took away Wlad 's jab. No small accomplishment and probably why most experts and Ring Magazine had Pulev as the number one ranked heavyweight behind Wlad.
