I agree and this is very puzzling. The traditional Cuban diet is probably quite healthy by modern standards, low on sugars and high in fiber and protein I assume from seafood and legumes. Yet guys like Juan Carlos Gomez Odlanier Solis quickly developed a junk food addiction. Maybe living for decades suffering from scarcity of sugary and fatty foods makes you more susceptible to getting addicted to Western junk food?

    Who knows??
Well, the Cubans are quiete well known for their lack of discipline. As soon as they are out of the grip of their very authoritarian and dictatorial coaches their discipline goes to the dogs. And as good and competent the Cuban coaches are they lack the nutrion knowledge their russian counterparts have. No,I dont want to say that Cuban coaches are inferior to Russian coaches but they have never studied this specific field of sport as profoundly as their russian counterpart.
Anyway! A boxer is a no little child, and a pro fighter should know how to treat his body.
Someone like Solis would probably be among the top5 at heavy weight if he had moved to north corea instead of Germany and the USA.

Solis also had a Glass Jaw. Just like Jorge Luis Gonzalez and most of their other fighters.
