Ah....the Jones catch weight happened when Jones was far past his expiration date...as was Tito. So the catch weight had little to do with the "legit'ness" of those fights. Hopkins was the favorite going into the fight with Oscar based on his "WIN" at 160 against Strum. Of course most felt he lost that fight but it hurt the "legit'ness" of the showdown between himself and Bhop becasue lets face it....DLH wasn't big enough to topple Nard at MW/MW cathcweight. DLH beating Forbes was expected...the catch weight was more for Forbes....he was a smaller man facing the bigger man who was on his way DOWN to set up a fight with Floyd.....Of course Floyd decided against fighting DLH and in step PAC. PAC's wins are special accomplishments given how he's moved up in weight....facing all the BIG names who were also holding size advantages over him. My point was this.....When Ray Leonard won his 5 World Title at a catch weight NO ONE had any problem with the "Legit'ness" of that win.....nor did they question guys like Homicide Hank when he fought at catch weights. PAC catches a bad wrap because he's one of the "Top dogs" in boxing...and being in that position you sometimes get OVER scrutinized. It's part of the package.
are u really trying to tell me that the leonard/lalonde catchweight was viewed as legitimate ? :rofl :rofl Everyone knows that fight was/is a joke hank fought lew jenkins in a non title bout, not a catchweight bout for paper titles like the ones pac fights in
 Of course.......when you look in the history books.....Does it say "Ray Leonard 5 Division champion" OR....does it show "Ray Leonard 4 Division Weight champion"?:think Ray won...beat the bigger man and he made history. Ray should have won...he is a LEGIT ATG. Just like PAC should have beaten Cotto and Marg since PAC is a legit ATG. And who consists of the "everyone" group that you claim don't give Ray his dues on beating Lalonde at a catch weight of 168?:huh The "MAJORITY" have always given Ray his props for being a legit, 5 weight division champion. I don't really care for catch weight for titles but hey...I'm a boxing fan....if there's a legitimate fight between a smaller fighter vs a bigger fighter...and the smaller guy is moving up 1 or 2 weight classes for the belt....I'm alright with a catch weight fight.
start a poll and ask if the ray leonard/lalonde fight was a legit fight or a farce. the margarito and marquez bouts were farces. one was against an old lightweight (almost 40) and the other was against a big bum who got his **** pushed in and ruined for life by mosley and had been banned for a year for being a disgraceful cheat. you're lying to yourself if you think his career above 140 is legit
The great Pacman signed the papers withouth reading them. he agreed to the terms before he found out about the gloves. It was his own stupidity. Forching Morales to fight at 130 only to move up in wight soon after and end up fighting at 147 is utter BS and shows what kind of a team he has :rofl
You do a poll....Ask if the posters consider Ray a 4 or 5 division champion. The Marquez fight was no more a farce than the fight JMM had with Floyd at 144....or 146...whatever. The Margarito win was a very good win....the way he dominated a man almost 20 lbs heavier was a great accomplishment....was it for a legit title.....In my opinion...not really...it was vacant but there are PLENTY of "champions" who capture titles that were vacant and no one taps those guys nuts about it. You realize that guy (Margarito) put on a hell of a performance in the rematch with Cotto AFTER Shane KO'd him and after PAC ripped him a new ass hole, right? Cotto ended up giving Floyd a really tough fight not too long ago....so if you're implying that Marg was a bum because Shane knocked him out or Cotto was shot because Marg KO'd him then you are basically saying Floyd's win over Cotto was a "Farce". PAC's career over 140 is still very solid even though it's not as great as his career under the Jr Welter weight limit. I give the man credit for doing his thing. If you choose not to....It's on you.
You call losing 8 out of 9 rounds like Margarito did against Cotto a helluva performance? atsch You think i'm hard to please you're way too ****in easy to please :hi: ive admitted numerous times the floyd and marquez bout was crap. thats the difference between me and *******s, i can call a spade a spade whether i like the fighter or not
Pacquiao wants a straight up fight at 147 like any other welterweight fight is made. Floyd wants the world.
Well....That rematch between Cotto and Marg was a carbon copy of the first fight.....Marg losing the first 6 or 7 rounds before Marg began closing distance and forcing Miguel into a toe to toe battle....only in the rematch Margs eye was damaged going in due to PAC breaking his orbital bone. But Marg was beginning to hurt Cotto in the later rounds of the rematch just like he did in their initial meeting. I'm laid back kid....I'm not hard to please. But I appreciate talent, hardwork and exceptional feats in any sport. PAC has all of the above. So I give him his dues. I don't think you are hard to please...I just think you choose who gets your praise and base it personal feeling rather than substance. The reason you think the JMM vs Floyd fight was "crap" is because of JMM moving up 2 weight classes to fight Floyd at a catch weight that Floyd didn't even make. It is what it is....it was a great performance...a dominating win...but it was expected.
Cotto was already wearing down by the 7th in the first bout. He was still beating the hell out of margarito in the 7th in the rematch. the fights were world's different. it wasn't a "helluva performance" by Margarito and no, i thought the floyd fight was already crap before the catchweight bs
Moved up regardless and insisted on catchweights for fights, while not letting Morales have one himself. ***** move.
when you're the fighter of the decade, you have numerous options. you can make take it or leave it offers. ...but 145 was cotto's term. 147 was dlh term. 140 was ricky's term. 135 was d. diaz term. 130 was EM's term in their 1st. 126 was MAB's term in their 1st fight.
