By that age Calzaghe had a far greater resume than Ward. Calzaghe had beaten Eubank a far greater win than anything Ward has plus Calzaghe had beaten top ten rated Reid a former champ who looked unlucky years later against Ottke and who beat current WBA int champ Magee, top 10 rated Sheika who was a better win than Green, top 10 rated Starie, Woodhall who was a top 10 SMW and former champ and Veit who would go on to be a SMW world champ

    Huh?

Who did Ward challenge exactly? :nut

You must be confusing fighters. It was Bute who challenged Ward and one of them chose not to fight.

Personally I think Ward easily beats Dawson (easily, styles make fights), but Ward doesnt seem to want to go near Bute and thats the fight the division needs.
Ward is like Ottke was with Calzaghe

Can you see history repeating itself in the SMW division when comparing Ottke and Ward?

    1. Both are feather fisted
    2. Both are stay at home heros
    3. Both refuse to fight their closest rivals (Calzaghe for Ottke, Bute for Ward)
    4. Both of their rivals agreed to meet them at their homes. (Calzaghe said he was happy to go to Germany, Bute said he was happy to go to Oakland) to no avail
    5. Both have excuses to not fight their rival. Ottkes team said Calzaghe would have to fight out of Germany for a while to become recognised , Wards team said Bute needs to fight some other fighters first .
    6. Both Ward and Ottkes rivals looked better overall against common opponents to them.
    7. Both their rivals won world titles before they did, yet they still found excuses.
    8. Both seem to have dodgy decisions. Ottke with mainly Reid, Ward with D Boone
    9. Both have had refs that appeared favourable. Reid got warned by the ref several times against Ottke. Bika, Kessler both got warned against Ward.
    10. The judges at home for them have both been favourable, for Ottke against Reid and Ward againt Boone and being given a shut out against Bika
    11. Both had the champ travel to them when contesting their first world title attempt

The haters will try and change the subject, but can you see the similarities?

If Ward added Bute and Dawson to his resume, while staying undefeated, I would be very impressed.

It would look good. Bute epecially. With Dawson I havent seen much that convinces me, but Ward does look a good tough fighter to beat and a win over Bute would be a top moment for him, but it seems Bute wants it and Ward doesnt seem as eager

I dont get these Ward fans being so insecure. Noone is saying Ward is a poor fighter. Everyone agrees he's good.

If we look at FACTS, we see the following:

    1. Ward fought Kessler and Froch in a tourney cause he had to, not because he chose to. The Kessler fight is suspect.

    2. Bute called him out in a clear way offering to fight Ward in Oakland. Ward declined stating hilarious reasons that he forgot after two weeks.

Really dont understand what's so hard to get.

man forget that question. . the more relevant question everybody should be demanding is "why can't he wait 2 more weeks to see if Bute beats Froch", and hten fight him?

    forget 175. . he's got unfinished business at 168. . . .

I dont see the point of this fight happening so soon. there are a host of guys that ward and dawson can square off against, on hbo, in buildup to a megafight between each other.

Calzaghe was never a champion at 175 lbs.

I know, right? It's not like he's going to have to "wait around" like some suggest? And the whole argument of "Bute being locked into two fights" with Froch is untrue; only if Froch beats Bute, does Bute have a rematch clause. In which case the fight would then be pointless. .

But somebody PLEASE riddle me this. . WHY can't Ward wait until afer May 26th to see if Bute beats Froch? PLEASE!

Yes he was, he didn't have an alphabet title, but that doesn't define a champion. Unless you consider JCC jr the MW champion? He beat the man at 175, and was undoubtedly the best LHW on the planet.

I think Dawson has a reasonable resume, wins over Tarver, Adamek, Johnson and Hopkins are notable. Though I don't consider any of them particularly impressive (Hopkins is 47, Adamek was stronger at CW, Johnson was past his prime as was Tarver). Overall, I think moving up to LHW and beating Dawson is a good win. If Bute beats Froch impressively, then beating Bute would be a very good win.
