Oscar had a story on ESPN Sportscenter this morning where they said Oscar looked like he was most likely going to retire at his press conference today.
Certainly would, but I'd rather see Hatton-De La Hoya at Wembley, because then I could go see it. I'm not to keen on travelling to Mexico. I think Staples Centre or LV would be a more likely venue. I think Oscar might be playing some kind of promotional game here, everyone thinks he is going to retire, then bang he announces Chavez Jr at the Azteca, or Hatton at Wembley, or a farewell tour, or even a rematch with Mosley. I guess we'll find out shortly. The tension is high, I'll be gutted if he retires, and boxing won't be the same without him. He was a helluva fighter.
Bingo.. Yup, it's for the attention.. He wants to make a scene out of it at the press conference.. He'll most likely cry during his announcement like most athletes do ( no shame in that ) but i think Oscar is going to step up his acting game in this one.
Yep, press confrence is at 12 noon in LA, and its 90% certain that he will announce his retirement. Although I have my doubts, he might have something else planned... Wondering if I can watched a broadcast of this confrence anywhere?
It's not just for attention, I mean if he is going to retire then people will want to know, he is a major sporting star, he is not just going to release a statement and thats all folks. A press confrence open to the fans is the right way to do things. Even if he shocks everyone and annouces another fight, it would have built attention and ancipation and attracted coverage, so the whole thing will have been an excellent piece of promotion for his bust-up with JCC Jr!
I think I've figured it out. Oscar isn't retireing, he is going to announce De La Hoya-Trinidad II :deal It all makes perfect sense now.
Me too. I actually makes sense for many reasons. Oscar lives in PR now, so they have probably been having secret meetings. Both guys are well past their best, so it wouldn't be a mismatch. Both guys are HUGE box office attractions still, and there is unresolved issues from their first fight. It would be the perfect way to end both their careers.
