Why did Ali start off offensive and not keep the distance against Foreman?

It was like Groves vs Froch.

You have to make the attacking force become hesitant.

    Ali fought a great fight.

A friend of mine who's quite knowledgeable about boxing after studying the fight came to this conclusion: Foreman had nothing for Ali, he couldn't hurt him, couldn't outbox him, couldn't fight inside nothing. Ali had the ring generalship that showed itself immediately in the first round. Ali was planting his feet and hitting George with right hands as hard as any he ever threw in a fight. I believe had Ali wanted to open up on George he could have ko'ed him earlier.

This. Ali's decline showed in that fight only in the short-lived nature of his lateral movement and his caution. 1967 Ali had him two rounds earlier imo.
