Why did Andre Ward lie about knock down?

I think it's unreasonable to ask someone to be completely erudite and factual after going 12 round with Kovalev.

    I've got problems??

I am not the one lying here, child. The fact is, Ward could not forget such a significant event, for he even undertook a long interview detailing how crucial that knock down was, in teaching him the valuable lesson in being able to get back up and regain focus after his Father forewarned him that a time would come that he would face such challenge.

I think he was directing his answer to the casuals, gambling on them buying his lie, as they would not know nor care to look up a Darnell Boone.

True infact I think Floyd gave rematches where in is heart he felt he could of lost,I think coming from Floyd who is often hated I reckon it's more humble than Ward could ever be wether it was intended or not?

Well either Kovalev had scrambled his brains so much or that in the event it just slipped out that he'd never been down and even worse he then chose to go along with the lie?
Andre Ward doesn't know what being humble is I'm afraid and all that stuff about Jesus helping him comes across as a bit weird just like when Serena wins Wimbledon and mentions how Jehovah helped her, sorry but I reckon Jesus and God have probably got more on their hands than winning sport events lol?
Anyway according to Ward we all need to "act" like Ward won to get the rematch even if we know he lost lol

He's talked about the Boone knockdown before openly in several interviews so it was more momentary lapse than a lie.

Mayweather took a Mosley overhand right he didn't see coming and stayed up, never dropped from clean Judah and Pacquiao left straights, and ate a clean Maidana right hand right on the chin he didn't see and simply wobbled a bit. Dude's chin is solid.

Why is the immediate conclusion that he lied? You think Ward is stupid enough to blatantly lie about something that anyone can fact check and most in attendance probably knew was wrong the minute he said it anyways? Don't you think its more likely he was just in an intense fight and simply misspoke? Its a subject he has openly talked about many times, and he later even corrected himself.

    Weird assumption.

That's one of the things that make Mayweather great, imo. Is that behind his great defense, is a solid solid chin as well. Any less of a chin and Maidana would have dropped him hard with that right hand. That was the most perfect punch he could have ever hoped to land and it landed flush on the button. Mayweathers chin is solid. Only real knock on it was against Chop Chop (same thing happened with Cotto against Chop as well), that was kinda weird.... but other than that its held up to big shots very impressively, imo.

I think in that moment he probably forgot. That was a long time ago.

Ward will get dropped again and again at LHW. His chin isnt that good, not glass, but not strong enough to withstand shots from the big hitters in that division.

This may very well be true and I'm not sure if you have close relationship with the man to claim he's this wonderfully magnetic human being. That said I doubt you share a devoted relationship with Ward that confirms he has a bad personality. Making these pre-determinations on people the data you gathered from their professional boxing careers shows you may have some room for improvement when evaluating individuals.

I take it you made a better spiritual connection with Sergei during your dinner vs what developed during your brunch with Ward.

Ward does not have a huge fanbase and his fights don't sell well, so would care to explain how he or his people are flush with enough cash to buy the win in a town he has never fought in before to boot. With judges that not one of them had ever scored a fight of his, and a ref that's never reffed a fight of his. So how did he pull off getting all these people to side with him, and his apparent bad personality. It's not like Ward has tons of money to just throw away like that.
