Prime Camacho beats Chavez. Rosario hit a lot harder then Chavez. Also let's remember that a lot of people thought Juan Laporte did enough to beat Chavez.
Rosario gave away too many of the early rounds against Camacho. It was a very close fight but no robbery.

And you know I hated Camacho but DAMN was he fast in his prime. Check out his record pre Rosario. He DROPPED Rameriez-something Chavez couldn't do.
Also let's not forget Camacho had a drug problem throughout his entire career.

Chavez was a top-level GREAT fighter.
Some people try to minimize or deny that now. But he was great.

Sure, Camacho was not the same after the Rosario fight. But don't forget that Chavez destroyed the same Rosario who had given Camacho the fear (and Edwin had since destroyed Bramble too, in the meantime).

Chavez was just a level above them. Truth of it right there.

Pre-Rosario Camacho was a completely different fighter. He might not have beaten Chavez but I'd give that version a great shot.

Camacho had elite talent. I can watch a round of one of mid 80's fights & instantly be impressed. Similar to watching Tyson. Unfortunately, like Tyson, he didn't get the most out of his talent. He definitely wasted some prime years.

same age but due to drugs & neglect/self abuse, well past his peak

Chavez was more than willing to accept Hector as an opponent but notice, that while Hector was on top in both divisions, 1983-1986, Chavez didn't dare make waves?

Ever notice how Chavez never Hector, who then was the top man in both divisions in which Chavez himself competed in - at the same time?

If Chavez ever was pursuing Hector, it was never apparent.

in fact, you could say that the slower Hector walked, the slower Julio chased him.

he'd have beaten him, trust me

Chavez never beat a top fighter from the US (in peak form) without outside help

How would you see Whitaker and Duran going at 135 against The Macho Man at his inspirational peak

dont know about Duran but Macho was Whitaker but with more speed

Hector was Pernel but with greater mobility and much faster, sharper jabs N combos

In a prime Hector-Chavez fight, we would see Chavez mentally tight and begin to choke. And things would only get worse as the fight wore on.

It would be like watching two different level fighters. Chavez would now start missing by feet, and receive Hector's ramrod jab followed by lightning one-twos. Julio would be utterly befuddled and by the 6th would visibly shows signs of discouragement

by the 8th round, Chavez has mentally checked out of the fight and waits for the foregone conclusion

Surprisingly, the fight is close with Chavez losing on one card by one point, the other two cards no more than by three

And that's the funny thing. Did Chavez knockout Laporte when they fought? How about Lockridge. He didn't hit that hard at Jr.lightweight. it was his pressure that stopped a lot of people at Jr.lightweight.
Enter Camacho. At Jr lightweight he was one of the fastest boxers EVER in that division. Add the fact that he had great movement.
Imagine someone with the speed of a Meldrick Taylor but they fight in a safety first style.
Hell when Chavez fought a WAy past his prime Camacho he couldn't even put him away.
The problem is most people have never seen Camacho box in his prime.

And Rosario was not the same fighter he was when he fought Bramble. Jesus watch them fight before you comment.
