Chavez was just as much past prime when Camacho was when they fought

Agree Chavez wasn't in his prime but Camacho was WAY past it when they fought.

Why, because Chavez made it look so easy? It was only a year later. What do you think could have happened to Rosario in such a short space of time? The Nazario fight was tough but not career changing i'd think. Chavez just smothered Edwin.

I'm a huge Rosario fan, if you've got a valid excuse i'm all in!!! :D

Hector passed his prime after 1988

Chavez passed his after the second Randall fight

    That is simply not true.

This fight took place five years too late.

Camacho hadn't held a legitimate title since giving up the WBC lightweight title in '87.

He stalled in '88 due to inactivity and, probably, out of the ring problems.

When he was dropped and barely edged the average Reyes Cruz in summer '88, one could see the decline was happening.

In Sept. '92, Chavez was still regared as one of the top fighters in the world.

I pretty much agree with this. Hector in '88 was losing it.
I really noticed Chavez's decline in the second Randall fight, but it probably started around or right after Camacho.

Regardless, Camacho was much farther from his prime form than Chavez was when they fought.

what was wrong with him in the Whitaker fight?

His problem was the style of Pernel who fights left handed

Chavez still look pretty good in both the first and second Randall fight

after that, there wasnt much left and was easy pickings for the new stars (up and comers)

the problem is these people are familiar with Chavez, but arent so much familiar with hector as you and me who were privy to witness him as a blazing fast jr lightweight

Rosario fought Chavez just a year later. Chavez was only a slight favourite to win. 6-5 odds a few days before the fight. It changed to 8-5 on fight night due to Mexican fans late money.
In other words, Rosario was highly rated going in to that fight.

    Chavez made Rosario look bad.

Julio caught Hector at the right time. Hector would beat Julio in 85 or 86. Hell, Juan Laporte arguably beat Julio in that time frame.

Chavez' prime was 85 thru 88. By 1993, he was 31 years old, 85 fights into his career and getting a little threadbare. His reflexes were slowed, his footwork, while still masterful, was not a quick as it had been before. Factors to this decline were the aforementioned 85 fights, the age and certainly a growing propensity to party while enjoyed the ridiculous adulation of his countrymen and the exposure King provided.

If you started following Chavez in the early 90's you were already watching the end. I was lucky enough to stumble upon him for the Martinez fight in 84 and followed him religiously until about the 2nd Taylor fight when my interest in him waned.

I seen Julio in his TV debut on CBS vs mayweather (KO 2)

Believe me, he was nowhere near ready for someone like Hector

which is probably why the fight did not come off until the next decade (7 years later)
