i don't think it was the speed, i believe it was the angles from where the punches were coming from. he is just awkward but now i believe mayweather will pick him apart as much as i would root for manny. i think mayweather's style is suited for pacman

Cotto started back peddling in the 6th from what I remember. First traces of retreat showed up at that point. Honestly, I don't think it's ever been stamina for Cotto more than it's been his lack of punch resistance. He starts doing his Tour de France bit when he gets hit. Like immediately. Just the way Reg described.

The simplest answer is Pacquiao is an all round better fighter.

The reason why he got beaten brutally was because of his defensive liabilities and his not so great durability. However even if he had a chin like Margarito he wouldn't have won the fight (although it obviously would have been far closer). The big problem is (and i said this for Hatton coming into the Pac fight) Manny can simply out exchange these bigger guys. He throws from awkward angles created by his athleticism and fast footwork, and he throws in bunches. You have to take several punches to land one, and this is as much because of the angles he uses and his timing rather than purely his speed.

Cotto would let his hands go and before he knew it he was standing there with his feet set and was looking at thin air, with Manny standing next to him ready to let his hands go on a relatively defenseless unprepared target.

Cotto lost because his punch resistance, stamina, defensive liabilities, requirement to set his feet when punching in earnest, tendency to flare up and exchange wildly when tagged, match very poorly against Manny's combination punching ability and use of angles created by his abnormally fast footwork.

Pacquiao's skill. Flat out. Prefight I predicted that Pacquiao would be able to land his sharp shots on Cotto and that it would ultimately lead to Cotto being stopped. That said, Cotto actually took more of Pacquiao's power shots than I thought he would be able to. If not for the stoppage by Bayless, I think Pacquiao sends Cotto out of the ring on his back in brutal fashion. Cotto was a completely beaten fighter with nothing left to defend himself, while Pacquiao was ready to hammer him to pieces.

    I voted Other.

Because these reasons are pretty much spot on.

One thing really surprised me and that was Pacman's Chin he took Cotto's best shots. It was amazing.

Because of that fat guy in the camp he kept calling for breaks so that he can take him and Joe Santiago to In-N-Out

It was a combination of many factors, but the one that was the most obvious was speed.

honestly to me Cotto fell into a stupid trap. He was handling Pac fairly well at first. Pac backed up welcoming Cotto to tee off on him and Cotto left himself wide open again and again. Pac hurt em and Cotto tried simply surviving

What u forgot to put in the poll is Pacquiao's punch resistance. I feel what contributed to Cotto's falling apart is when the fact that he was hitting Pac with everything he's got and Pac didn't budge. Cotto was like "WTF." From then on, he was thinking I'm fighting a little giant and went on the run. How can I beat this guy if I can't move him.

I would say Pacs speedy combinations....

Judah and Mosley both have speed, but they dont throw combos like pac does..... cotto can time speed, he can as hes shown.... but its different timing one or two punches then going back to work then it is trying to time 16,000 punches from all sorts of angles in one combo attack.

we all knew manny had the speed & skill to deal with a fighter coming at him.

IMO it was pacquiaos power. i didnt expect his power to drop and brutalize cotto like that.
he beat the **** outta miguel, i mean damn. i dont anyone was more surprised than cotto himself.

Cotto did match Pacquiao in speed. I think he hits decent too. The biggest problem was he didn't hit Pacquiao with anything Pac didn't see coming. Everything Manny took he took on the balls of his feet or backing up with his guard up. I think I saw maybe two or three flush punches but nothing beyond that. Having the leg strength Manny has also helps. Those punches go right to the legs and when your legs are built like an oak you absorb shock quite well.

Manny was hitting Cotto with serious punches. That left hook that stood Cotto up was magnificent. The reason those punches landed is that Pacquiao is just sharper than Cotto. He also doesn't lose his form on one punch to the next. Cotto throws a punch, thinks, throws another punch, thinks, changes form, thinks, throws a punch. Manny is all different. He throws punches one to the next without any conscious thought. Just like a machine. Like with Margarito, Cotto cannot cope with that. When you do see Cotto throw under pressure its never as good as when he has time to think and plan attacks.

All of that above is why Cotto was the underdog going in. He actually performed better than I expected. I would have expected a spirited but knockout loss around 8 or 9.
