Why did Floyd decide to make this fight now?

Because money talks. CBS and friends finally sweetened the deal enough to make it worth the risk.

    Three things:

    1) Amir King Khan - Floyd scared
    2) Pacman - Cornered Floyd into the fight
    3) The fans - We didnt accept any other fight, it was pac or nothing

True that. Both sides backed off publicly leading into negotiation. :good

I believe that was a slip by Bob, and why you quickly saw a statement from HBO/Showtime saying they had issues to resolve so none of the parties involved would feel insulted publicly. I'm sure Bob felt a little silly after that.

Either way, glad the wait is finally over. May 2nd can't get here fast enough. :bbb:bbb:bbb

Not read all previous posts but I find it obvious that floyd has tried to wait till manny has burnt himself out and slowed down as his style would cause anyone fits and he didn't fancy it.hes watched manny get cleaned out then thought he'd got away with it,then says **** like he's got Marquez probs etc yet pac didn't go away,he's reluctantly took it now as what excuse could "money" use not to fight the man he's supposedly so much better than for quadruple at least what he's ever earned in a fight.this fight is well past its sell by date but pac is still an immense fighter.hard to say for certain how this fight will go,but if pac loses,it doesn't make floyd the greater fighter as the way pac has fought far more challenges without fear of s loss whereas floyd has clung to his 0.
Both amazing fighters, manny a true old school fight anyone warrior to boot tho.
    Floyd has sold himself short

And people who try to belittle pac need to sit back and take note, same to mayweather.look at any fighter who steps up a weight maybe 2 and see the difference in how effective they are,Zheng watch how floyd does it thru 5 weights and wins effortlessly snd pac thru 8.the only reason I'll ever slag fm is because of the bulldhit snd refusal to fight prime cotto, margarito and pac for years but he's obviously s ****in legend, and if anyone tears thru the divisions bullying and knocking out men do much bigger than him in my life time that pac has,i 'lol eat my hat.put things into perspective

Because Pac beat the #3 P4P fighter in Bradley and knocked Algeri, who is a master boxer with a great great lumpy jab, down 6x.. He also dominated Rios who is way way better than Maidana and would ko him.. That's just a few things I heard as little as 2 days ago...

Agreed! The fight is still a big deal.....both fighters a older and have slowed down a bit due to age......but they are still top level guys and Floyd is without question #1 in the world P4P. This will surely put Floyd in a special place in boxing history if he beats Manny convincingly.

It also took time for Hearns vs Leonard to happen, same with Tyson vs Lewis and many other big fights. It's a marketing strategy to further keep fans exciting/hopeful and see both fighters make enough money fighting others till no one is else then they can bank it all in the one big fight people always wanted. I'm sure you know that this is a job to these fighters, not a hobby.

If you consider this era weak with fighters like Pacquiao, Ward, Froch, Hopkins, Mayweather, Alvarez, Lara, Golovkin, Cotto, Mosley, Rigondeaux, Donaire, Lomachenko, Garcia, Porter, RJJ, Tarver, Martinez, Pavlik, Khan, Taylor, Thurman, DLH, Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko and MANY more then you're the one on crack. As far as being compared to previous eras is concerned, if you go back to the 70s you will find people exactly like you claiming the 50s were better, same thing with the 80s, 90s and today(yourself being a primary modern example). Either appreciate what you have in the sport you apparently love or take your negativity to UFC.

Again, same nonsense. If you go back to DLH's days, he was also considered pathetic to compared to ones before him. Remember when RJJ was getting his share of hate too?, Leonard got it as well and excessively.

Then slit your wrist and spare us the negativity. We normal boxing fans are happy it finally happened and can't wait to experience it. Go back to ALL big fights, how often did all of them take place immediately?. Was Leonard vs Hearns made immediately?, the answer is no, was Hagler vs Leonard made immediately?, the answer is no, was Tyson vs Lewis made immediately?, the answer is no. Was Lewis vs Holyfield made immediately?, the answer is no.

With promoters and managers being there, they will make sure their fighters milk themselves perfectly well before blowing it all in one big event. Again, this sport isn't a hobby to these guys, it's a job.

This reasoning would make sense if he only said "timing was right" thus it could be interpreted as he was waiting for the biggest financial return and trying to cash out on other fights first. However when you throw in additional quotes such as:

"I've seen a change in Pacquiao"
"He's not the same fighter he was 6 years ago"
    "My health comes first"
    "It's all about self preservation".

Come on man, if any other fighter was saying this just

Floyd's exact words were "the timing is just right" and "pac is not the same anymore".

Take whatever you think it means but it is pretty straight forward.

I think Floyd got backed into a corner. The public negativity against him was palpable. He knew he couldn't go out like that. Plus, as mentioned, the execs at CBS wanted this fight bad. But still, in the end, Floyd had the final say and I'm still shocked he took it cause I thought he would never fight Pac.

If you're a new fan then that's understandable, but I've been a fan of both fighters since 2003 and I tell you straight up that Mayweather always made ridiculous comments regarding future opponents or others. He just always have and continues to do so. Even though he said those things publicly the fans and media didn't stop attacking him to make this fight, which is why it happened. Using those quotes and overlooking and obvious insane demand for this fight would be outlandish.
