John Murray will never be able to operate on the world level imo, he lacks the defense, and the power. John Murray would not last 5 mins with a world class fighter, one who is a straight puncher with power.
I think his lack of footwork is a more pressing issue than his defence. It makes him predictable and easily outboxed as well as contributing to how easy he is to tag.
Murray is a strange kind of fighter, he is a pressure fighter who fights too tall, which means he fights with a short stance, but he is a guy that even though he fights too tall, has a tendency to lean in too much, which is why he has such shitty footwork imo. Murray's does not get his feet into the right positions because of his posture & stance. There is an invisible parallel line from the lead foot upwards, which your head is not supposed to cross, only Murray's does, which is why his feet are too underneath him at times, which will mean he will have a tendency reach, or push his punches at times, and looks to have cumbersome footwork. All the technical issues with balance, footwork, are precisely why his defense is so appalling, you will never have a good D without sound foundation of balance and footwork. Another thing Murray does, is fight too square, which can make any fighter more open when backed up, he also holds his hands too high, which means he is wide open up the middle, and to the body. Murray does not have enough physical gifts to be a world class fighter, and he does not have the technique, skills to negate that.
Murray's undefeated record means nothing, its just a "feel good illusion" that both fighters and fans use for hype for e.g Salita!!! The funny thing is Murray doesnt get the big fights and it is his promotion company or trainer that are to blame and when Khan gets questionable opponents then it is Khan who is ducking and choosing easy opponents. My point is if Murray is so frustrated and bothered about his loser career then he should take his finger out of his backside and do something about it. At this moment in time I have more respect for Khan than Murray merely because of the fact that he is backing up his words so far!!!Usually if fighters suffer a heavy defeat like the Prescott defeat it takes them time to come back e.g Kevin Mitchell,Murray is undefeated but still cannot get himself into a decent position to fight any good opposition he only has himself to blame for this because I really do not think anyone in his division is ducking him!
juan diaz did well enough, the problem with diaz is that he did not know what to do if he was hit by problems such as the head clash during the campbell fight he didnt react well to such problems,
