Why did Louis go down against Galento, Baer, Braddock, and Walcott?

The 80's had Holmes, Tyson, Witherspoon, and Holyfield. IMO tis is Greater than Louis, Schmeling, Bear, and Sharkey.

Tyson, Holmes and Holyfield are top 15 ATG heavies. Only Louis can claim that. Do we agree?

Bear and Sharkey lost a lot by the way. Schmeling was upset one time too many. I can not see Tyson, Holmes, or Holyfield losing to the people this crew lost to. No way. Maybe Holyfield on one of his off nights would be upset, but not the the degree Baer, Schmeling and Sharkey were. It's true and you know it.

Fought and tested by are two different things. Bear landed very little on Joe Louis. He was blown out. What did Nova land? He was wiped and did not win a round. Yes, Walcott was a solid puncher, he floored Louis 3 times in two matches, but wasn't going for the knockout.

    Tyson lost to Douglas
Holmes lost twice in a row to Spinks
    Holyfield lost to John Ruiz

    Thoughts?

I am not that familiar with Witherspoons prime but I did a quick rundown his career and I am surprised to see him mentioned with the greats you posted. Perhaps he is a great and I need to watch him but his record does not show it.

I wanted to add that of the 15 Lineal champions that ever existed in boxing history Joe beat 6 of them. Nearly half of the the history of Heavyweight champions up to his 11 year rule. He didn’t just beat them...

To me that is quite the p4p accomplishment

If he wasn't tested, then he had good defense. You can't have it both ways.

Tyson lost to Douglas in the biggest upset in HW dvision history. Holyfield lost a lot of fights against underwhelming competition (Moorer, Ruiz, Toney). Holmes lost his title to LHW. Lewis got stopped by Rahman and McCall.

So no, I don't agree again.

But rated below Tyson, Holyfield and Holmes for sure. Schmeling at 15 is a real stretch. Few would agree with that.

You do know that an explosive puncher with fast hands can end a fight and not get hit much at all? It's not having it both ways its the facts of boxing. When hit, Louis went own quickly vs Galento. B Bear, and Braddock early in the fight.. He was rocked badly by 168 pond Conn, and stunned by a straight left of Tommy Farr. Facts backed up by film.

Kod twice by big punchers the first hit him with right hands all night, the second got him when his legs went and he was an old37. As he said himself, "I was younger then ,you can take more ," which directly contradicts your stupid remark that Briggs was more durable at 38 than at 28.Stupid but predictable ,as you always want to big up the Klits ,and have a history of slagging off Louis.

You're an idiot. I think Tornto 62 and Ranier, your former alt posters who were also banned are smarter.

The young Briggs was Ko'd in 1 by Savon, and Ko'd quickly as a pro by Darrol WIlson. Darrol who? The punches were not hard. And as we know Lewis bombed him out.

The older Briggs took many flush shots from Lialhovich, Ibrgimov, and Klitschko. IMO his corner should have saved him from a beating with Klitschko.

If you watched his stoppage losses in his 20's, you won't be impressed by his chin, but if you watch him in the 30's it's clear his chin was good then. In fact he was never down past age 30. As usual the facts don't agree with you!

Briggs is full of excuses. Quoting them after the lose means little. Briggs was full of excuses when he drew with Botha, and IMO he should have lost that one.

Briggs tore his left biceps muscle in the Vitali fight,he was essentialy one-handed for most of the 12 rds.The only thing he showed in that fight was a ton of heart.Unlike his opponent who quit whilst in his prime, facing a small non puncher!
Briggs took 130 flush right hands from Vitali without once hitting the deck.

Where do you rate Joe Louis' punching power and finishing ability (2 different categories) on a scale of 1-10?

He got it handed to him and had broken bones in his face. Color him lucky he made it out okay. When did this muscle tear happen? I already showed you Briggs was more durable past the age of 30.
