Good question?Idk mainstream appeal.Pac is a offensive exciting fighter.Floyd just talked himself up :yep.Respect hopkins but his style is dirty turn off.Mosely was already a star not as big but he's got his fan base back in his prime.People felt Oscar won the first or both plus he was on steroids no credit.
DLH was always more popular - by some orders of magnitude - than both Hopkins and Mosley. Combined. Mayweather and Pacquiao already had large followings and quite a bit of buzz prior to beating DLH (something Bernard and Shane didn't, in spite of having the ability and the p4p recognition)
The key element is cherrypicking your opponents to try to stay undefeated after a great win. Hopkins and Mosley lost soon after beating DLH.
They were both going mainstream anyway. Oscar was just in the way and they just rolled over his ass on thier way to the top. Manny made his bones with the Marquez fight. People hungered for the raw violence that he commited. People fell in love with the sweetness of Mayweathers demostrations in the square circle. They were the cream of the crop and the cream always rises to the top.:bbb
With that being said, Mayweather beat Oscar at 154 earlier than Pac beat oscar at 147 a weight that Oscar hasnot been at for a very longtime. My point is that, Mayweather beat the man, and became the man. Pac did indeed beat Oscar, but Oscar was no longer the man, Mayweather was. Pac failed to come to terms for a fight with Mayweather, who like Oscar was in a position to call the shots. They both have characters which draw fans to them, whether they are liked or not. Mosley, Hopkins did not venture outside of boxing while Mayweather and Pac did. mayweather is the bigger star regardless if people like it or want to agree with it.
I totally agree with that assesment but let me add that Oscar was only a shortcut to where Mayweather was headed anyway and that was to the top. He was sort of a gatekeeper for Mayweather and Mayweather kicked the gate wide open and served him up to Packie who tore into his ass like the tasmainian devil. That was that and the golden boy was history.:bbb
Oscar made all those guys. Including Mosley and Hopkins. Oscar was one of the biggest cash cows in boxing ever.
